COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A rich, copper ale with a case full of gold medals. Our Calico Amber Ale takes its inspiration from traditional English ESBs. Four types of malts give it a bold complexity, and our proprietary yeast strain lends it a fruity, madeira-like richness. However, it’s the American hops that give this ale a distinct bite and floral aroma that have earned it just about every major beer medal.

bottle to glass widmouth pint jar. Pours a cloudy amber with a sparse tan head that dissapates quickly. Has mostly malty flavors with a touch of hops.

Schysst öl med en bra söt maltig smak med lite karamell och en lagom humlebeska. Lagom mängd kolsyra, trevlig och lätt att dricka! Inget som sticker ut utan en välgjord bra öl helt enkelt. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

I’d say the official deScription is spot on. Pours slightly hazy copper, aroma is mild malt to almost nonexistent. Flavor is English ESB up front, a little sweet, rich malty flavor, that progresses into the American hop presence. Mild bitterness and somewhat dry mouthfeel to finish, balanced nicely with the malt. I’ve never had Madeira, so can’t say I noticed hints of that. Very good.

Aroma - pungent hops, slight oak, and sweet malt. Appearance - body is slightly unfiltered, slightly hazed mahogany. The head about 1 3/4" and off-white. The head is fluffy and slowly settles. Decent lacing. Taste - has a crystal malt quality, with some slightly pungent hops. There is a sweetness about it, and also an oaky quality. Palate - body is medium, texture has a faint bit of oil, the carbonation is average, and the finish bittered.

Finally got my hands on a nice variety of fresh Ballast Point brews, and this was the surprise hit of the group. Good amber body with a quick bite up front, a hopped amber perhaps. Like this.

Faint hop aroma with the body of citrus with a bubbly palate. Incredibly refreshing beer.

Creamy and fruity in the malt and then fresh with some bitterness in the hops. Great version of an amber ale. Reminds me of 5am saint from BrewDog. I prefer both to traditional versions.

Excellent blend of malt sweetness and hop bitterness. More sweetness and more hop bitterness than UK versions. Should be priced less than their brews with exclusive and expensive hops.

UPDATED: DEC 13, 2015 Aroma is toffee, caramel, hops, bitter, malty. Appearance is amber, off tan head. Taste is nice, bitter, malty, caramel, toffee, earthy hops. Mouthfeel is medium body, soft creamy carbonation. Overall, this is very interesting for an amber, closer to an ESB, although the bottle says that. I like it.

Bottled. Pours auburn with a slightly orange tinge, big slightly tan head. Aroma is first and foremost, caramel malt. Orange and citrus round it out. I expected a little more hoppiness in the aroma since i’ts ballast point. The taste has more, but it’s malt up front, caramel mostl, some sweet sugar, with a mild citrus middle, and an astringent aspirin/hop bite for the finish. It’s ok.

ice amber-red; slightly hazy; sudzy head. Crisp and clean. Roasty and sweet malts. Sweetness kind of reminded me of the candy coating on Boston baked beans ... or maybe even like caramel-dipped apples. Hops balanced things out well, with a healthy bitterness to boot. Not over-the-top by any means, but not boring by any means, either. Very enjoyable
