Bottle from Bev Mo (not refrigerated). Pale clear golden color..No head. Nice full piney hop aroma. Flavor is well balanced, pine, some citrus, some light malt. Not too bitter. Hides higher ABV welll. Might not have been fresh, but I still enjoyed this beer.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Interesting IIPA...beautiful liquid gold body with a dense ivory head that left sticky lacing on the inside of the glass. Aroma is aggressive evergreen and bright citrus. Flavor is filled with spruce, douglas fir, and ponderosa...it is amazing how much pine is included in the flavor (by far the most of any beer I’ve tasted). Grapefruit and lemongrass are also present. Medium mouthfeel.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Sam’s. Pours golden with bubbly white head. Nose of tropical fruits, citrus, and some pine. A little sweet. Tastes more sweet than expected, though not cloying... just wish the hops came through a bit more on the taste, particularly in the mid palate. They come back with a bitter, nearly tannic finish, but the citrus was more-or-less lost. Solid, but not as good as expected.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from SAMs. Pours golden with a small white head. Nose is pine, citrus, tropical fruit, light caramel. Pretty nice flavor- tropical fruit, pine. Bitter, slightly astringent finish. Pretty nice, but I think this sculpin is a bit more polished and clean.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
22 oz bottle. Pours a slightly cloudy golden orange with a small sticky white head. Big aroma of hops, typical Pac NW scents, citrus, floral, pine, there is a bit of malt and alcohol way back in there too. The flavor is a great balance of sweet and bitter, not as bitter as the aroma would make you think though. Medium body with average carbonation and a slightly dry finish. This is a really great IIPA, the alcohol is hidden really well and the hops really come though in the aroma and flavor without too much bitterness.

4.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Not typically a fan of IPA’s but this Double IPA is amazing. For it’s high alcohol content the bitterness is not really present at all. Great aftertaste.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
I love Ballast Point, but this one was a slight letdown. Appearance is great - bright orange color, no haze, off-white head, and laces well. Nose is great with mixed citrus, but a focus towards grapefruit. Palate offers a whollop of both hops and malt, some biscuity caramel flavors in there, but mostly edgy sharp hop bite. Finish is sharp too with a subtle lingering sweetness.

7/23/2009: Ballast Point Dorado Double I.P.A. smells like a freshly peeled and juiced tangerine. It tastes mildly sweet with some underlying toasty malt and a cornucopia of citrus hops flavors dominating, including: tangerine, orange, and red grapefruit peel. The beer is orange in color with a beige head, medium body, and good mouthfeel. This is an excellent DIPA.
