UPDATED: JAN 6, 2008 Nice! I love DIPA. This puppy is very smooth and not very bitter. Alot of fruit stuff happening. Does not taste like a 9%er at all. Some slight peachy/mango/grapefruit flavors. Once again, San Diego makes great IPA, certainly I am a fan.

This beer has a lot of citrus going on. A dominant grapefruit flavor is certainly present. I would find this beer delicious with a plate of waffles for breakfast in the morning.

Bottle - Hazed amber, creamy white head. Sweet hop nose of mango, guava, and soft citirc tones, with an underlying wave of toasted caramel notes. Great hop flavor up front and throuhgout, but minus any sharp stinging bitterness. Mostly pine, citrus, and tropical fruit flavors dominating, but the soft sweet toasted malt backbone smooths out all the rough edges this beer could have had. Medium bodied, light carbonation, dry, softly bitter finish. Just another prime example of why Southern California is my beer mecca....

UPDATED: OCT 25, 2007 22oz Bomber. Pours a deep straw color with a nice large foamy thick tan head. The aroma is sweet and hoppy and has a light citrus note. At first the taste is light with a bitter undertone, but the taste lingers and becomes more hoppy and begins to fill the back the mouth and throat with a more alcholic feeling. The taste is certainly complex and interesting, not as good as a yulesmith or a 90 minute, but certainly a fine brew.

Pours a translucent golden amber with an average creamy white head. Aroma of orange, caramel, sweat maltiness coming through also...followed by some alcohol. Flavor of very fresh hops, orange, caramel malt balance, alcohol and hard candy.

On Tap at Ballast’s 10th Anniv. Golden to orange color with off white head. Nice aroma. Grapefruit, pine needles and hints of sweet malts. Great IIPA aroma. Wow, is there grapefruit juice in this? Huge hop flavor with the grapefruitiness. Some sweet malts hiding out back disguised as part of the grapefruit experience.

22oz bottle poured a clear copper/gold color with a nice white head. Aroma was super hoppy with a very nice citrus and pine mix alongside some small amounts of caramel malt. The taste was big and bitter with a good strong hop taste from start to finish. The malts are slightly noticable along with the alcohol. Overall a nice DIPA that slaps you in the face with hops and makes you want more.

UPDATED: DEC 8, 2008 Rerate. 22oz bomber. Orangy-caramel-colored body topped with a creamy off-white head, leaving behind this lace. Head hides the beer, body sparkles slightly and is opaque. Aroma is sweet and fruity and yeasty...almost cloyingly sweet, honeyed, pine-wood, honey-comb, hop-flowers, peach. Mouth is medium-full with some foamy carbonation for a nice finish. What the carbonation does not dry out, the hop finish does. As predicted by the aroma, the front is quite sweet with honey, peach, toffee, sweet and spiced liquor, followed by pine, wood, hop oil, and a touch of roastiness for a desiccating, bitter finish that is rather pleasant and smacks of mangoes. The beer is too sweet, even for me who likes big malts, but quite good.

On tap at brewery. This is a nice beer. Lightly cloudy honey colored body topped by a small white head that does not lace. Very fruity aroma with a lot of sweet peachiness, honey, and some citrus. Body is medium with light foamy carbonation and a well-tuned, dry finish. Flavor is hoppy! Honey, caramel, peach, orange rind, orange, waxy-honeycomb floral flavor.
