bubbleflubber (2159) - Asheville, North Carolina, USA - JUN 12, 2016
Pours orange into the glass, with a large foamy eggshell head that leaves thick soap lacing. The nose is of candied ginger. Flavors have lots of ginger spice overtop of cracker malts and some caramel/touch of and finishing of heavy ginger spice. Medium-bodied and complex, it’s definitely an interesting take on the IPA genre, that’s for sure. Will probably be a hit or miss, depending upon the taster.

This was poured into a becher pint glass. The appearance was a mild hazy burnt amber color with a one finger white to off white rocky foamy head that took its time to dissipate. Nice show! Semi-thick foamy lacing appeared all around the glass. The smell had the normal qualities of Big eye (bitter citrus to piney to that light underscore of caramel malt) and then spiced up with ginger. Smells authentic. The taste was spicy - fully through the ginger and on into the hops, taking them to the same spicy level. Bitterness shows up just a bit. Dry semi-spicy aftertaste with a quick finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium in body with a decent sessionable feel to it as the ginger doesn’t hit too hard and nor does it become a palate wrecker too much. Overall, Ballast Point did everything they wanted to with this one. That’s definitely real "ginger" they added. I like it for the most part, but it does come across pretty dry.
