COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ten different malts and six different hops (Ahtanum, Cluster, and Spalt to name a few) combine to create this full-flavored, small beer. Even Keel features a silky malt backbone and a bright hop flavor and aroma that come from the late kettle additions and dry hopping with 1.5 pounds per barrel. Even more layers of flavor are created with fermentation being done by two strains of yeast. This session ale is herbaceous with additional citrus aromas of lemon and grapefruit. The orange to copper hue draws you in and the low alcohol volume keeps you coming back for more.

Copper, white head, lite retention and nice lacing. Pine, grass, citrus and floral. Medium bodied, pine & citrus dominant, grass, and mild fruit notes. Nice balance, medium hop bitter, and refreshing dry notes. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Can at World of Beer, Savannah. Head is initially small, mostly diminishing. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), moderately hoppy (resin, grapefruit), with a note of diacetyl. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately to heavily bitter. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly to moderately astringent. A rough, raw, overly bitter example with nothing much to offer in the nose other than the usual resin-grapefruit hop odor common to most American pale ales. Some diacetyl doesn’t help matters either. This one required a surreptitious visit to the restroom to dump it in the sink so I could move on to something else.

12 oz. can from SoHo Organic Market, Elizabeth City, NC. Dark orange pour with a frothy off-white head. Nice piney and grapefruit hop aroma with light caramel malts. The taste is bright and moderately bitter with piney, grassy, and citrus hops taking center stage. This is one of the first session IPAs I have tried that I could imagine myself wanting to drink several of. An impressive feat that this seems like an IPA and not a pale ale yet weighs in at only 3.8% ABV. Very nicely done.

Can poured to pint glass. Sweet and fragrant aroma. Juicy hops bite, citric sweetness. This does not taste like a session beer, it’s become my new favorite low abv beer.

12oz can from Xroads. Poured a nice looking rusty orange with a large frothy eggshell colored head. Aroma/flavor of dry citrus rind, amber malts, grain, lemon, passion fruit and a slight touch of copper. Medium body with aggressive carbonation and a lingering dry bitterness. This is really good and then when you consider the ABV it’s like WOW!!!

Location: 12 oz can from Hoboken Vine, 5/15/15

Aroma: The aroma is mostly resiny/pine hops, some clean lemon/citrus hops come through too
Appearance: Clear and bright orange in color with a frothing, lasting beige head and sheeting lace
Flavor: A lightly sweet taste, very clean from a flavor perspective, with a medium bitter finish
Palate: It has a quite smooth and clean feel, a lighter body, soft carbonation, and a dry finish
Overall Impression: Pretty much right on what I look for in a Session IPA. Nice flavor. Easy drinking. Low alcohol. It is a hint thin compared to the best ones, but otherwise, as you’d expect from Ballast Point, this is excellent.

So much flavour for such a light beer. Floral, citrus, pine, wood, herbage, mineral. Medium bitterness. Very nice, but too expensive to session in NZ.

Very nice. A bit less punch (in flavor and alcohol) than the Sculpin, but a nice refreshing beer nonetheless. Perfect for a nice spring day in a lawn chair. Taste is grassy, touch of pine, touch of citrus, touch of hops. Slight soapy finish, but not off-putting.
