COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ten different malts and six different hops (Ahtanum, Cluster, and Spalt to name a few) combine to create this full-flavored, small beer. Even Keel features a silky malt backbone and a bright hop flavor and aroma that come from the late kettle additions and dry hopping with 1.5 pounds per barrel. Even more layers of flavor are created with fermentation being done by two strains of yeast. This session ale is herbaceous with additional citrus aromas of lemon and grapefruit. The orange to copper hue draws you in and the low alcohol volume keeps you coming back for more.

On tap at Stone Fantastic session ale. Low abv, but not a "light" beer by any means. Aroma is piney hops, hops, and more hops. Taste is very bready, almost woody. Nutty. Pine and citrus hop flavors dominate, but do not overwhelm. Highly carbonated, pretty full bodied for a low gravity beer. Excellent.

If I lived here, this would be my beer of choice. Very nice hop aroma with a bit of malt. Citrus and pine stand out. The flavor is very bitter with a big hop hit. The finish is very dry and refreshing. This is one you can have several of and still stand up. Excellent.

On draft at Capones. Pours a cloudy light orange yellow gold with a frosty medium sized white head. Aroma of grapefruit, bitter hops and light floral hints. Taste is much the same as the aroma. Has a perfumy aftertaste. Hoppy.

Thus beer does not seem 3.5% to me. It is a Jekyll and Hyde beer. The first half is awesome. Full of citrus and a big hop bite. Then it so of harshes the tongue after that. In comparison to the Stone collaborative San Diego Session, this doesn’t balance out the full glass. Maybe less hop assertiveness would help.

Pours a bright gold with a good-sized off-white head. The aroma is very nice, with some floral and citrus hops that aren’t too overpowering, but are well situated for the style. The taste has the floral and fruity character from the hops, a little bit of bitterness, and a little bit of bready malt. Light to medium-bodied with good carbonation. Not as enjoyable overall as some of the other Ballast Point offerings, but a very nice and sessionable hoppy brew. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 02-17-2010

Also on tap at Capone’s. This beer is a fantastic, full of flavor beer, in a small package. Low ABV makes for a great easy drinking session beer. Very clear in appearance. The aroma is very citrus, and the taste concurs. The malt is obviously light in this beer. This is a great IPA, with a solid hop background and foreground.

A draft pint at Capone’s Fresh Hop Fest. Had to try this after seeing the good ratings on Ratebeer, and I have to concur. A 3.5% beer is not one I’d be inclined to order, but this one is different. The lack of malt body in the beer is compensated for by the hops which result in a beer that is as tasty as many 6.5% IPAs around. Leave it an excellent San Diego brewer to produce the first low alcohol beer I’d ever want to buy a six-pack of!

On tap at Capone’s. Pours a hazy orange color with no head. Aroma of grapefruit, hops, pine and toasted malts. Fresh flavor with citrus, floral hops, pine and some toasted malts. Very well done!
