COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ten different malts and six different hops (Ahtanum, Cluster, and Spalt to name a few) combine to create this full-flavored, small beer. Even Keel features a silky malt backbone and a bright hop flavor and aroma that come from the late kettle additions and dry hopping with 1.5 pounds per barrel. Even more layers of flavor are created with fermentation being done by two strains of yeast. This session ale is herbaceous with additional citrus aromas of lemon and grapefruit. The orange to copper hue draws you in and the low alcohol volume keeps you coming back for more.

Draft at the brewery. An unclear amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet with notes of grass and hops. The flavor is sweet with notes of grass, elderberries, and lots of hay, leading to a dry and very bitter finish. The body is light.

Hazy golden color, with large bubbles. Nice aroma of hops (a bit resiny and fruity), cereals (as in other low gravity beers), chamomile, honey. The mouthfeel is very dry, it has some cereal flavor, strong bitterness, some hop resins, light orange oil, and a bit astringent in the final.
Nice beer, even better at this gravity.

Bottle at Chris and Ruth’s place in London. Clear golden beer with a nice offwhite head. Hoppy citrus aroma, grassy, hay, pine apples, mango notes. Hoppy citrus flavor, grapefruit, pine, peach, some biscuits. Quite nice SIPA, I guess the can has helped it survive all the way to Europe.

Can. A hazy, golden beer topped by a small, dense, off-white head. It’s quite malty on the nose, bready and lightly caramel-.ish, but there’s also a nice hoppyness, with pine cones, grapefruit and a generic citrus touch. It’s medium bodied, quite dry and with a tad too much carbonation. Quite bitter, with grapefruit, pine cones and some citrus peel. Lasting bitter, grapefruity finish. A bit on the malty side this one, but it sure ain’t a bad one. 150612

This is the second time I’ve had this beer. The first time was at Blue Palms and then at Ballast Point. I was not impressed the first time, but figured I would give it another chance. A: The beer is a very clear light golden color with a thin layer of white foam that leaves a bit of lacing on the glass. S: Considering the description and all the mentioning of dry-hopping, I had high expectations. This is a pretty fragrant beer, especially for a pale. Lots of citrus hop aromas going on here. T: This definitely has more of an IPA flavor to it. A lot of bitter pine and grapefruit flavors from the hops with hardly any malt flavor. You would not expect this to be such a low gravity beer. M: The beer is quite light on the tongue, but that is the point of it. Very lively carbonation helps to keep it light as well. D: This is a beer I wish was more readily available (even bottled). An amazing session beer and very refreshing. It’s nice to see such a flavorful, low alcohol beer like this.
