Ten different malts and six different hops (Ahtanum, Cluster, and Spalt to name a few) combine to create this full-flavored, small beer. Even Keel features a silky malt backbone and a bright hop flavor and aroma that come from the late kettle additions and dry hopping with 1.5 pounds per barrel. Even more layers of flavor are created with fermentation being done by two strains of yeast. This session ale is herbaceous with additional citrus aromas of lemon and grapefruit. The orange to copper hue draws you in and the low alcohol volume keeps you coming back for more.

Pours a bright gold with a good-sized off-white head. The aroma is very nice, with some floral and citrus hops that aren’t too overpowering, but are well situated for the style. The taste has the floral and fruity character from the hops, a little bit of bitterness, and a little bit of bready malt. Light to medium-bodied with good carbonation. Not as enjoyable overall as some of the other Ballast Point offerings, but a very nice and sessionable hoppy brew. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 02-17-2010

Pours a light orange color with white head. Nice fresh hoppy aroma, with citrus and grapefruit. The flavor is citrus, bready malt, and floral hops in the finish. Balanced and drinkable.

Draught at TJ’s: Aroma of cirtus, grapefruit, and hops. Very nice aroma for such a low alcohol beer. Poured amber in color with a small, white head that diminished but lasted throughout as a film on top of the beer, as well as around the edges. Slightly hazy. Lightly sparkling. Good lacing. Flavor is medium sweet and light to medium bitter. Tastes of hops, citrus, grapefruit, malt, and slight caramel. Medium body. Tingly, then dry texture. Average carbonation. Medium sweet, medium to heavily bitter, hop, grapefruit, malt, and caramel finish. This beer demonstrates that 3.5%ABV does not mean no flavor. I am impressed.

355ml bottle pours a copper color with a finger of white head that leaves some nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is citrus and pine with some caramel notes. Taste is a citrus and pine hop bitterness with a herbal note and a caramel malty sweetness. Light grainy mouth feel. Light bodied with good carbonation. Overall, this is a nicely crafted ale that is balanced and tasty. recommended.

Can. Pours clear orange, large puffy off-white head, dissipates slowly, nice residual lacing. Aroma is perfume, pine, grapefruit, herbal. Flavor follows, light sweet and light bitter, a bit buttery, lots of perfumy hop presence. Light body, pretty solid beer for <4%.

I was disappointed with this one. Had a tuna fishing trip out of San Diego, but this just seemed too watered down surprisingly, even for the "style" of session IPA. I mean, it did taste like a light IPA as opposed to an American pale, but the flavor just didn’t work for me.

Location: 12 oz can from Hoboken Vine, 5/15/15

Aroma: The aroma is mostly resiny/pine hops, some clean lemon/citrus hops come through too
Appearance: Clear and bright orange in color with a frothing, lasting beige head and sheeting lace
Flavor: A lightly sweet taste, very clean from a flavor perspective, with a medium bitter finish
Palate: It has a quite smooth and clean feel, a lighter body, soft carbonation, and a dry finish
Overall Impression: Pretty much right on what I look for in a Session IPA. Nice flavor. Easy drinking. Low alcohol. It is a hint thin compared to the best ones, but otherwise, as you’d expect from Ballast Point, this is excellent.

12oz can in a tulip. Pours amber with a white head. Aroma of citrusy and floral and earthy hops, some pale and light caramel malts, and some dough. Flavor the same with some bitterness at the end. Average texture. A pretty good session IPA, but not the best beer ever.

Can during 2nd Annual Midlands tasting group; clear amber pour with a frothy beige head, aroma has pine and tangerine, taste has light pine some tropics, light bitterness, well crushable.
