COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ten different malts and six different hops (Ahtanum, Cluster, and Spalt to name a few) combine to create this full-flavored, small beer. Even Keel features a silky malt backbone and a bright hop flavor and aroma that come from the late kettle additions and dry hopping with 1.5 pounds per barrel. Even more layers of flavor are created with fermentation being done by two strains of yeast. This session ale is herbaceous with additional citrus aromas of lemon and grapefruit. The orange to copper hue draws you in and the low alcohol volume keeps you coming back for more.

tap at the brewery and at the Microbar in Rockford, IL-pours bright orange with a small soapy white head. nose is very husky with lots of hops too-do i detect rye? flavors are sweet, husky, hoppy, with lots of citrus and floral notes. very simple but for the abv, this beer is easy to session. big citrus flavors for such a small beer with a long citrus finish. lingering husk notes but thats to be expected for this beer. tasty!

tap. aroma of clean dank citrusy hops with a pleasant tropical fruit tangerine sweetness to round things out. nice balance. not too bitter, not too sweet. worked pretty well. not terribly potent aroma, but very easy to drink. good job at the session hoppy pale ale style.

Can (12 oz) bought @ Winooski Beverage Warehouse.

Appearance: Clear amber/golden with a small off-white head and little lacing.

Aroma: A burst of oily hops at first, but it dissipates really quickly to leave the place to toasted malts, light resin and mineral notes.

Taste: Mild. Toasted malts, light caramel, light resin, mineral notes and light to moderate bitterness.

Palate: Light body. Medium carbonation. Thin mouthfeel, almost watery. Somewhat dry finish. Mild mineral finish.

Overall: Thereís some very low abv beers that you canít tell they are low abv... thatís not the case with this one. Itís super easy to drink, but it lacks of body to support the hops and the mouthfeel is too thin.

Iíve gotta give some points to Ballast for making a session IPA under four percent alcohol. It pours a nice clear orange color w/ a foamy white head that leaves patchy lace on the side of the glass. It has a great hop nose with lots of mandarin orange specifically along w/ maybe a bit of pine and some assorted and various fruity flavors some of which seem to come from an estery yeast well. This is a dry beer but there is some malt character which implies a bit of sweetness and brings out a slight cherry-like note from one of the six hops they used in this thing. It finishes w/ a firm, earthy bitterness. This is a nice beer something about the hop character to this strikes me as not quite dead on but I enjoy it quite a bit nonetheless.

(Draft: OíBrienís and Liarsí Club in San Diego, CA) A great idea from Ballast Point! The nose is very fruity, kind of peachy, lightly hoppy. The flavor is fruity and moderately bitter, but the hops does stand out because the lightly-sweet, grainy malt base is pretty light. Light-medium body, very clean and fairly crisp, moderate carbonation. Pale golden color is somewhat hazy. Smallish, off-white head settles to a filmy layer, leaving a few spots of lace behind. At 4.5%, this is a true session beer for the hopheads in San Diego. I like more malt in my hoppy beers, so while I can appreciate the flavor of the hops, this really isnít a beer for me.

I had this on tap at Ballast Pointís 10th Anniversary Party. It pours a clear golden color witha mild hoppy flavor. They listed it as a session ale and it certainly is. Itís a very nice middle of the road brew

Caramel orange, off white cover. The aroma is toast, perfume, citrus hops. The taste is largely the same, very floral and perfumey, light bodied but expected at the ABV level. This beer is fantastic and would make an amazing session if it werenít for the $5.50 price for the pint.
