COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ten different malts and six different hops (Ahtanum, Cluster, and Spalt to name a few) combine to create this full-flavored, small beer. Even Keel features a silky malt backbone and a bright hop flavor and aroma that come from the late kettle additions and dry hopping with 1.5 pounds per barrel. Even more layers of flavor are created with fermentation being done by two strains of yeast. This session ale is herbaceous with additional citrus aromas of lemon and grapefruit. The orange to copper hue draws you in and the low alcohol volume keeps you coming back for more.

Can. Amber pour with a tall, fluffy white head. Aroma is citrus fruit, floral hops, caramel and light pine. Taste is malt, caramel notes, floral hops, citrus, light pine and hints of tropical fruit. Body is medium with a moderate bubbly carbonation. Light lingering bitterness. Ends with more floral notes, citrus, light pine, hop resins, caramel and toasted malt notes.

At BPB. Hazed yellow orange pour with gooey lace. Sweet malt aorma backed by solid hops. Very hoppy but good malt balance. A lemony hard bitter finish (nice) just a bit fizzy with medium body. Another very refreshing drinker that has a lot to offer.

UPDATED: JUN 15, 2015 12oz can. $9.99 six pack. A great example of the style. First of all it is 3.8%, whereas most session IPAs tend to just sneak under 5.0%. Whatever...this is excellent either way. Solid, steady hop bill. Mellow citrus grapefruit tones fitting for the style. The malt has a little depth to it to, not the seltzer feel. Solid offering.

ABR 2014. Very sessionable, just as they describe. I was not aware that the alcohol was so low. Sweet malt and citrus flavors from the hops.

Medium-copper with lighter blonde tints and a large, well-retained white head.
Plenty of citrus and light tropical fruitiness in the nose is clean, as allows from these guys and leads to light traces of biscuits and dry caramel. Big notes of grapefruit, softer meyer lemon-like juiciness and touches of pine and mango round it out. No alcohol, obviously and quite clean and bright (and low on resin).
The flavor is amazingly full, robust and deliciously hoppy without being overdone. Not something one can just chug too easily, as there is a good deal of bitterness. Quite impressive they’ve got this much flavor and body in to a beer of this size. I was generally treating this as a sipper, not because it was too bitter/resinous or anything, but because each mouthful was quite enjoyable and the flavor lingered nicely. May actually buy a six pack of this soon.

Light copper coloured body with a amber glow and a thin, soapy white head, only about a centimetre tall. Aroma of fresh grassy hops with a touch of herbs, soap and some very mild bitterness, but not much at all. Super light-bodied; Very mild flavour of grass, herbs, hops, resin and a faint bit of pine - the hops are noticeable, but very mild, and the beer goes down very easily given that there isn’t much malt here at all. Aftertaste shows the grass and hay with little else, a touch of light tropical fruit flavours and that’s about it. Overall, a good beer for the style - shows the hops, shows a touch of bitterness, a tiny bit of complexity, yet remains super easy to drink and doesn’t show any alcohol at all - perfect for the summertime, which is just about everyday in California! I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Liqour Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 12-July-2015 for US$1,79 sampled on the train from Washington to New York (while in New Jersey) on 18-December-2015.

Location: 12 oz can from Hoboken Vine, 5/15/15

Aroma: The aroma is mostly resiny/pine hops, some clean lemon/citrus hops come through too
Appearance: Clear and bright orange in color with a frothing, lasting beige head and sheeting lace
Flavor: A lightly sweet taste, very clean from a flavor perspective, with a medium bitter finish
Palate: It has a quite smooth and clean feel, a lighter body, soft carbonation, and a dry finish
Overall Impression: Pretty much right on what I look for in a Session IPA. Nice flavor. Easy drinking. Low alcohol. It is a hint thin compared to the best ones, but otherwise, as you’d expect from Ballast Point, this is excellent.
