COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ten different malts and six different hops (Ahtanum, Cluster, and Spalt to name a few) combine to create this full-flavored, small beer. Even Keel features a silky malt backbone and a bright hop flavor and aroma that come from the late kettle additions and dry hopping with 1.5 pounds per barrel. Even more layers of flavor are created with fermentation being done by two strains of yeast. This session ale is herbaceous with additional citrus aromas of lemon and grapefruit. The orange to copper hue draws you in and the low alcohol volume keeps you coming back for more.

Cask at OíBrienís: Golden color with a light white foamy head. The nose is pronounced with that typical fresh ask hoppy note. The flavor is a bit on the dry side but has a nice chewy malt backbone to back up all the hops. The finish is tangy and lightly sweet with some honey flavors. A balanced APA that just loves being on cask.

Sampler at the Brew Mart. For a session ale the aroma on this one is surprisingly hoppy. Flavor is very IPA in nature, with great similarity to Big Eye. The lack of ABV on this one, is not noticeable at all... very good stuff

This is the second time Iíve had this beer. The first time was at Blue Palms and then at Ballast Point. I was not impressed the first time, but figured I would give it another chance. A: The beer is a very clear light golden color with a thin layer of white foam that leaves a bit of lacing on the glass. S: Considering the description and all the mentioning of dry-hopping, I had high expectations. This is a pretty fragrant beer, especially for a pale. Lots of citrus hop aromas going on here. T: This definitely has more of an IPA flavor to it. A lot of bitter pine and grapefruit flavors from the hops with hardly any malt flavor. You would not expect this to be such a low gravity beer. M: The beer is quite light on the tongue, but that is the point of it. Very lively carbonation helps to keep it light as well. D: This is a beer I wish was more readily available (even bottled). An amazing session beer and very refreshing. Itís nice to see such a flavorful, low alcohol beer like this.

Lightly hazy orange amber color with a small, white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of floral hops, light pine, citrus fruits, and some toast. Taste of citrus, pine, toffee, grapefruit, grass, and a bitter finish.

April 15th, 2012 - Iíve never seen Ballast Pointís Even Keel in a bottle, but I can see this being a popular San Diego session beer for folks with long nights of low-key entertainment ahead of them. As it were, it suffers from being part of a line up of tasters at the actual brewery, with spicier beers here and there talking over Even Keelís more measured style. But I can still see where this is an excellent, high quality pale ale. The brew is a light, maple color, glowing with refracted light, and sporting a decent cap of large beaded bubbles on the head. The nose is light, made lighter by the diminutive stature of the tasting glass, and has pleasant notes of tangerines in simple syrup, and the earth sweetness of graham crackers. And like itís namesake, it is a stolid, rocksteady beer on the flavor. Mineral water and slight change from a blank mouth filling sensation to a low, murmuring malty glow is just what one hopes for from an ESB. Even Keel isnít technically an ESB, but it would find itself in good company with one.

Sample at Ballast Point. Really a solid beer. Tons of hop aroma and flavor, pours a beautiful clear orange and I could drink a lot. Really nice and flavorful, balanced and just overall good.
