COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ten different malts and six different hops (Ahtanum, Cluster, and Spalt to name a few) combine to create this full-flavored, small beer. Even Keel features a silky malt backbone and a bright hop flavor and aroma that come from the late kettle additions and dry hopping with 1.5 pounds per barrel. Even more layers of flavor are created with fermentation being done by two strains of yeast. This session ale is herbaceous with additional citrus aromas of lemon and grapefruit. The orange to copper hue draws you in and the low alcohol volume keeps you coming back for more.

12 oz. can from Ales Unlimited. Hazy orange colored body with an off-white head. Nose of light floral hops and grapefruit. Taste of grapefruit citrus on a smooth malt base with a bit of cracker and cereal. Not piney. Excellent balance. Medium to light bodied with moderate carbonation and mild bitterness. Good flavor for the low ABV. Imminently drinkable.

Copper color with a medium head. Very strong pine and tangerine aroma. Moderate bitterness. Piney and abrassive. Dry maltiness.

UPDATED: MAY 7, 2006 Hell yeah. I like this stuff. The first time I had it was at O’Briens and that followed a strong belgian, so I don’t think those were the right conditions to accurately come to judgement. Had some down at the brewmart today and it was delicious. How do you get such a big body out of a beer with such little alcohol. Trade secrets! Anyway, I’d drink this stuff religiously if they would bottle it. It’s like a safe version of North Star.

UPDATED: AUG 1, 2008 Taster at Ballast Point/Home Brew Mart. Nice light drinkable brew. Not much to say other than its a definite session beer that has some decent flavor. Great Session beer.

Draft at RBSG. Pours a golden amber with a dissipating white head. Great floral hop aroma. Light to medium bodied. Flavor of pale malts and dry biscuit, countered by a nice aggressive citrus and spicy bitterness. Finish is grassy, semi dry and hoppy. Great concept and great beer.

This beer arrives from the tap a darker color than I was expecting; it is an amber, lightly hazy hue that is topped by a thin, pale tan colored head that is typical for a tap pour. There is a nice, clean hop citrus aroma to this that has notes of orange zest, some bright tangerine character, grapefruit, and a solid lychee note. There is a hint of crystal malt character here in the nose that adds light notes of toasted grain and caramel.

This has a nice biting bitterness to it as it first hits my tongue. It is quite dry which mutes the citrus hop flavors, but not completely as notes of grapefruit, tangerine, spicy citrus oil, a touch of lychee and a lingering apricot note in the finish are all noticeable. This is nice and light feeling on the palate, the hops actually provide some astringent mouthfeel that makes this beer seem a bit fuller than it actually is. Some pine and menthol flavors are also here and help to add to the hop complexity. There is just a hint of malt backbone here with notes of toasted grain and a touch of caramel.

This is very nice, I could drink a lot of this if the alcohol is anywhere near 4%, unfortunately there seems to be quite a bit of conflicting information on the actual alcohol content of this beer. This is perhaps not complext enough, but the mix of dominant hop character and light malt backbone in a low-alcohol form makes for a very nice beer.

Growler shared thanks to largadeer on BA. Pours clear golden with a one-finger white head and good lacing. Aroma showcases loads of hops for the ABV. Citrusy and herbal, along with a touch of sweet malt. Flavor is solid for a session beer (in the true sense of the word) like this. Slightly sweet malt with a hop kick that is orangey and herbal, almost tea-like. Medium-light body with lots of resins attacking your palate. Overall, wow, this is an excellent a pale ale, especially at 3.5% ABV. I could session the hell out of this, and what do you know, I can even use the verb "session" and not offend the term’s tireless defenders when referring to this one.

On tap at Stone Fantastic session ale. Low abv, but not a "light" beer by any means. Aroma is piney hops, hops, and more hops. Taste is very bready, almost woody. Nutty. Pine and citrus hop flavors dominate, but do not overwhelm. Highly carbonated, pretty full bodied for a low gravity beer. Excellent.

Draft at sb. Pours a crystal cear medium amber with a loose whitish head. Big sweet tangy nose, showing pineapple and grapefruit. Creamy medium body with lively carb. Caramel, pineapple, and grapefruit mid palate. Beautiful light body and very clean. Nice light finish.

UPDATED: SEP 6, 2014 12 oz can. Pours a copper color with a small off-white head that slowly fades to a fine film. The aroma is fairly strong and features grapefruit and lemons. The taste is more lemons and grapefruit set in a biscuit malt base. The palate is just bit thinner that I would prefer and the carbonation is lively. Finishes medium in duration and leaves a citrus aftertaste. Overall: First rate Session IPA.
