Ten different malts and six different hops (Ahtanum, Cluster, and Spalt to name a few) combine to create this full-flavored, small beer. Even Keel features a silky malt backbone and a bright hop flavor and aroma that come from the late kettle additions and dry hopping with 1.5 pounds per barrel. Even more layers of flavor are created with fermentation being done by two strains of yeast. This session ale is herbaceous with additional citrus aromas of lemon and grapefruit. The orange to copper hue draws you in and the low alcohol volume keeps you coming back for more.

From 0,33l can, Pours hazy golden liquid, small to medium frothy tan head, Aroma: grapefruit, pomelo, citrus, lemon grass, malty, caramel, Taste: light to medium sweet, medium bitter, light sour, pomelo, citrus, grapefruit, orange, malty, caramel, Palate: medium body, creamy texture, soft to average carbonation, long bitter citrus aftertaste, Overall: almost perfect session IPA, very drinkable, low alcohol, solid malty and caramel body, lot of hops all around the body, many layers of different citruses. All flavors are combined in a very harmonic way. Enjoyed, pity, I do not have this piece in a Key KEG in my cellar.

Can from a 6 pack bought a corner Super America gas station at 38th and Park in South Minneapolis next to the usual MGD and Mickeys - woohoo for quality microbrew bought at MN gas stations! This is very new here. Pours beautiful copper with light foam leaving a fair trail of lacing. Nose is big citrus hops, a little hop resin backed by caramel malt. Flavor is very rich considering the abv - has very mildly sweet and bready caramel malt , great soft texture in the malts - very well thought out malt bill here - followed by a cascade of citrus hop flavors in the finish and lingering resiny bitterness. Wow - as long as my corner SA keeps carrying this it’s like my local bitter at the corner pub.

Perfect alcohol content for a beer I want to pound a ton of. Lots of juicy fruit flavors. Pineapple mango grapefruit citrus on the finish. Decent body and flavor. Solid. Maybe the best session I have ever had.

Aroma is pine, tropical fruit, really a lot of scent. Appearance is golden amber, white head. Taste is very piny, a small bit of tropical fruit, some malt. Mouthfeel is light, decent carbonation. Overall, this is a very good session.

UPDATED: MAY 7, 2006 Hell yeah. I like this stuff. The first time I had it was at O’Briens and that followed a strong belgian, so I don’t think those were the right conditions to accurately come to judgement. Had some down at the brewmart today and it was delicious. How do you get such a big body out of a beer with such little alcohol. Trade secrets! Anyway, I’d drink this stuff religiously if they would bottle it. It’s like a safe version of North Star.

UPDATED: AUG 1, 2008 Taster at Ballast Point/Home Brew Mart. Nice light drinkable brew. Not much to say other than its a definite session beer that has some decent flavor. Great Session beer.

Draft at RBSG. Pours a golden amber with a dissipating white head. Great floral hop aroma. Light to medium bodied. Flavor of pale malts and dry biscuit, countered by a nice aggressive citrus and spicy bitterness. Finish is grassy, semi dry and hoppy. Great concept and great beer.
