COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ten different malts and six different hops (Ahtanum, Cluster, and Spalt to name a few) combine to create this full-flavored, small beer. Even Keel features a silky malt backbone and a bright hop flavor and aroma that come from the late kettle additions and dry hopping with 1.5 pounds per barrel. Even more layers of flavor are created with fermentation being done by two strains of yeast. This session ale is herbaceous with additional citrus aromas of lemon and grapefruit. The orange to copper hue draws you in and the low alcohol volume keeps you coming back for more.

Draft at sb. Pours a crystal cear medium amber with a loose whitish head. Big sweet tangy nose, showing pineapple and grapefruit. Creamy medium body with lively carb. Caramel, pineapple, and grapefruit mid palate. Beautiful light body and very clean. Nice light finish.

UPDATED: SEP 6, 2014 12 oz can. Pours a copper color with a small off-white head that slowly fades to a fine film. The aroma is fairly strong and features grapefruit and lemons. The taste is more lemons and grapefruit set in a biscuit malt base. The palate is just bit thinner that I would prefer and the carbonation is lively. Finishes medium in duration and leaves a citrus aftertaste. Overall: First rate Session IPA.

UPDATED: APR 2, 2015 "Session" pale ale (SD session beer is what they call it). Solid aromatics, abounding in citrus. Big nose, semi sweet adequately bitter flavor. Pretty easy going.

This is a really nice session beer. Light malty, medium hopping, dry palate, quite a nice beer for hot days.

Pours a clear golden brown from the can with fluffy white head that leaves good lace. Aroma is great hoppy citrus notes that go into nice malty backbone. Taste follows, way more than the 3.8% abv would make you assume. Very nice beer, definitely will be drinking a few of these.

Pours a light copper color with a white head. Citrus aroma with light tropical fruits and pine. Flavor starts with a grassy malt followed with citrus flavors and finishing with a grapefruit and pine resin hoppiness. This is one of the better Session IPA’s I’ve had.

Thanks Jim for sending. This was poured into a pint glass. The appearance was a hazy golden burnt orange to yellow color with a slim finger’s worth of white foaminess that quickly dissipated leaving some ever so light stringy lacing sticking in parts and then sliding. The smell had a sweet to slightly piney aromatic hops in front of a light caramel malt. The taste combined freshly and gracefully the hops to the malts leaving no aftertaste and a semi-dry finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light on the body with a nice sessionable aspect running about it. The carbonation was somewhat smooth but also a semi - sharp bitter bite on the tongue. Overall, I say this was definitely one of the better session IPA’s I’ve had. Ballast Point is quickly growing on me.

Very tasty, session beer. Little ABV makes it easy to pound a six pack and not feel bad about it. Nice hoppy, citrusy flavor. Way better than drinking any macro light beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Location: 12 oz can from Hoboken Vine, 5/15/15

Aroma: The aroma is mostly resiny/pine hops, some clean lemon/citrus hops come through too
Appearance: Clear and bright orange in color with a frothing, lasting beige head and sheeting lace
Flavor: A lightly sweet taste, very clean from a flavor perspective, with a medium bitter finish
Palate: It has a quite smooth and clean feel, a lighter body, soft carbonation, and a dry finish
Overall Impression: Pretty much right on what I look for in a Session IPA. Nice flavor. Easy drinking. Low alcohol. It is a hint thin compared to the best ones, but otherwise, as you’d expect from Ballast Point, this is excellent.

Taster at the brewery. Amber color with nice white head. Hop-forward, grapefruit, citrus. Taste is grassy, shallots, grapefruit, medium bitterness, very refreshing. Good!
