COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Lager meets IPA in a winning combination.

Our Fathom India Pale Lager combines time-honored lagering techniques with the hop profiles of a West Coast IPA recipe. The cold-fermenting lager yeast provides a clean base that allows the citrus and pine aromas from the hops to really shine. The result is a gold medal beer with a refreshing, easy drinking character and just the right amount of depth.

On draft at Obriens; I thoght this was an IPA rather than an ESL; to me it seemed a lot more IPAish. Nose was lightly garssy hops with a little citrus accent; copper with a small off-white head; flavor had some caramel malt to balance out the hop bitterness; finish was lighly bitter. I would have liked some fruitiness rather than so much hoppiness if it is an ESL. But good anyway!

UPDATED: MAR 28, 2008 On tap@the new Scripps Ranch Brewery: Golden amber color with a medium white head. Aroma is lemony citrus. Flavor starts light sweet citrus (grapefruit, lemon and orange) followed by a medium citrus bitterness and a medium dry, lightly grassy finish. Medium body is tangy with lively carbonation. Lager my ass, this is a damn good IPA (made with lager yeast I guess).

On-tap at BP Linda Vista. Pours an orange yellow color with a fluffy off-white head. Smells light and fruity hoppy like a lighter single IPA with more of a malty backbone. The taste is super fruity hoppy, sweet citrus, with a lingering malt profile. Grapefruit, orange, and then smooth and grassy bitter on the finish. Medium, bitter body with vibrant carbonation.

At BPB. A deep golden pour with gooy white head. Nice hop aroma with no paper at all which surprised me. Hops run rough shod over the malt. Has a very good bitter finish. Solid medium bodied palate. Very solid offering.

Draft at O’Brien’s. Nice head on a golden yellow pour. Aromas were what I had expected, but the flavor was a bit better. Lots of hops on the flavor. Citrus and some grassy flavors. Pretty good.

On tap at Ballast Point. Very faint aroma but the taste is very hoppy, very floral and very bitter. Not bad.

Tasted from tap at Churchill’s with Ivan, Tim, Aaron, and Dave. Pretty interesting to hear about an IPL, instead of the usual IPA. Wow, nice hoppy aroma. Surprizing. Fat thick head. Pale color. Creamy microbubble head. Nice level of hop bitterness.
