Lager meets IPA in a winning combination.

Our Fathom India Pale Lager combines time-honored lagering techniques with the hop profiles of a West Coast IPA recipe. The cold-fermenting lager yeast provides a clean base that allows the citrus and pine aromas from the hops to really shine. The result is a gold medal beer with a refreshing, easy drinking character and just the right amount of depth.

Tap @ PP Carlsbad. Clear golden pour with a thick white head of foam. Aroma is dry, bready malt with pungent floral hops and pine. Taste is hop bitterness up front with some malt sweetness and more pine/bitterness into the finish. Clean drinker. Doesnít taste like a pilsner to me; more like a clean, lager/IPA. Good beer though. Iíd buy this if bottled.

Golden yellow color out of the can with a short lived white head. Nose of citrus rind and alcohol. I didnít notice the abv on the can. Lots of pine and dried orange peel over crusty bread and that alcohol. Interesting beer.

12 ounce can from Beer Run. Clear golden, large white head, good retention. Aroma of herbal, resinous hops and pale malt. The taste is green, herbal hops, pale malt, a bit of pine. Medium bodied, mildly crisp, mild lingering bitterness.

Can from World Bee Market (Sake no Taniguchi). Pear and peach nose, along with alcohol (not fumes, exactlly, but a definite presencein the aroma). Clear orange-tinted gold straw color, thin white head. Caramel, grapefruit, and again a decided alcohol note. Malty, but thin. Bitter finish. Thin-medium body. Seems bigger than it really is -- light body, thin flavors make the alc. stand out a bit too much.

Pour is a clear yellow with a large white head. Aroma is fresh pine hops with maybe some mint in there. Flavor is again hops up front with a thick syrupy sweet malt. Kinda like a hopped up malt liquor. Finish is clean but leaves a decent hop on the tongue. Nice and hoppy for a lager but a little thick.

This one tastes more on the lager side to me but theres definitely a huge bitterness. Not as tropical but definitely lots of pine and citrus. Really refreshing.Theres something else but I canít put my finger on it, but itís really good. Itís a wonderful mix of an ipa and a lager, which when done right, can be a delicious beer. I picked up a single and now I wish I just got the whole six pack, itís wonderful. Ballast Point crushed this one.

This was poured into a pilsener glass. The appearance was a golden/bronzed color with a slight transparency about it. Light carbonation could be seen rising at a moderate pace. Messy foamy lacing clung around the glass. The smell started off with sweet grassy leading into sticky sweet citrus notes. A light sweet malt glazes over some light bitter citrus rind. The taste was sticky sweet with a decent underscore of bitter citrus rind balancing and gracing a nicely balanced citrusy aftertaste and semi-sticky sweet finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a nice sessionability about it. Carbonation rides really light on this one leading with a nice smooth yet somewhat creaminess on my tongue. Overall, this was a pretty good India Pale lager that I could have again.

12fl.oz. can. Pours a clear golden orange with a medium, long lasting, off-white head that laces. Sweet fruity, hoppy aroma of grapefruit, tropical fruit and pine. Sweet flavour of grapefruit, tropical fruit, pine and caramel malt with a dry, bitter, grassy finish. Medium body with an oily texture and soft carbonation. Refreshing and very drinkable.

Poured into a taster showing neon yellow with a half a finger of clean white foam. The nose shows a lot of clean pine and citrus with moderate intensity. The palate is light bodied, smooth, and well carbonated. The first impression shows somewhat restrained but clean citrus with a constant malty lager note underneath. The finish shows the same citrus with a clean pilsner/lager bitterness. Overall what I expect to find in a clean IPL!
