Lager meets IPA in a winning combination.

Our Fathom India Pale Lager combines time-honored lagering techniques with the hop profiles of a West Coast IPA recipe. The cold-fermenting lager yeast provides a clean base that allows the citrus and pine aromas from the hops to really shine. The result is a gold medal beer with a refreshing, easy drinking character and just the right amount of depth.

Tap at Ballast Point. The beer pours to a glowing golden body with a white head. Aroma is hoppy and fruity. Flavor is bitter hops with a dash of sulfur. Lots of grains like an artisan bread. The palate is bitter and medium bodied.

On tap at Eagle Triple Tap Clear deep orange light amber. Modest fine off white head Big piney hop aroma and flavors. Pretty hefty malt body for a pale lager even granted a double. IPA territory here. Good

DAAID; Can 355mL., drunk at Rekord Bar. Pours large, gold with a frothy creamy, lacing, off-white head. Nose is moderate to heavy, pine, citrus, light floral and spice. Taste is heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a lasting sweet fruit, light citrus finish. Body is medium, texture is oily to sticky, carbonation is soft.

Itís refreshing to drink a lager with something more going on than the basic water and cereal malt going on. The hop does indeed add another layer to it, but overall it didnít feel too impressive. Some lemon grass and just plain grass in the aromas. The finish falls a bit short.

Bomber poured a clear tarnished gold with a small lasting off white head. Aromas of straw, earthiness and light citrus. Palate was light bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of bread, citrus and earthiness with a smooth dry lightly bitter lingering earthy finish.

On tap at Ballast Point Miramar. Pale yellow no head. Faint aroma of hay and honey. Taste is sweet and not unlike a German helles. Finish is quick and more of the same. Not a great beer and actually a bit disappointing.

Large Format - Golden orange color, very little head that dissipated really quickly. Slight sweet flavor but with a little bitterness, neither of which over powers the other flavor. The mix of styles leads to a weird taste, just a little to sweet for me.

Tasting session @ Budapest Gold color, almost clear. Big white head. Lots of lacing. Not much aroma. Tastes like a hoppy Pilsner. OK.

Bottled 3/5/16. Pour to wine tasting glass (I donít care, let me do what I want). Bright and clear, unmistakable gold. Spotty stucco lacing. Bready, doughy peppery malt on the nose, complemented by a stiff lemongrass and citrus peel, white flowers, faint bruised red apple underneath. Flavor has a nice pasty lager presence, bready, very gentle lemon zest and foliage, and same as the nose, some apple-y quality (possibly a result of blending hop/malt profiles and textures). I always find this one interesting. The lager presence is strong and amplified; doughy, pasty linger, with some lemon and bitter flower.
