3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Lagunitasfan (1309) - San Diego, California, USA - DEC 17, 2008
UPDATED: JUL 25, 2010 On tap at Stone. Hazy yellow with fluffy, light head. Smell is hoppy and lightly fruity. Taste is not IPA. Bitter yes, but has the lager smack. Not as sweet as I thought from the nose. Has a distinct bitterness to it. Rerate from original 12/08 rating. Everything I previously said, with a nice lil hint of tropical fruit hoppiness, and a clean finish. Great sommertime brew. Up from 6.3.6.3.15=3.3.

Couldnt detect much in the way of aroma. Upfront flavor is bland polsner that quickly morphs into a perfect citrus hop and smooth finish. The definition of a dynamic beer.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 papajohn (1249) - San Diego (Mira Mesa), California, USA - MAR 27, 2008
UPDATED: MAR 28, 2008 On tap@the new Scripps Ranch Brewery: Golden amber color with a medium white head. Aroma is lemony citrus. Flavor starts light sweet citrus (grapefruit, lemon and orange) followed by a medium citrus bitterness and a medium dry, lightly grassy finish. Medium body is tangy with lively carbonation. Lager my ass, this is a damn good IPA (made with lager yeast I guess).

Well, maybe this is a little misleading to say this is the BEST lager I’ve ever had. Incredible citrus/pine hop aroma pouring out of the glass. Fragrance is king in this beer - in fact it shapes the whole flavor profile. And it’s a lager! Amazing balance with the crisp finish and gold color.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 coolpop (1202) - Birmingham, Alabama, USA - DEC 4, 2012
Draft. Poured straw with a medium-sized white head. Aroma was floral hops, grass, bready malt. Nice yeasty notes. Frankly, this got lost in the midst of tasting other, more strongly flavored beers. Would like to try this again.

On tap at Pizza Port Carlsbad. Poured a light golden color with small white head. Aroma of floral fresh hops and sweet sugars. Taste is very well balanced with a mild bitterness. Medium carbonation. Excellent beer. Very crisp and refreshing.

Aroma of grapefruit, apricot, and nectarines. Pours bronze and pretty well carbonated. Tastes of apricot, bread, a little pine. This is wonderfully hoppy.

Tap at Daily Pint. Nose is nice fruity hops with very ephemeral quality. Taste is lemon zest concentrate, grass, very acidic hop juice. The finish is very dry and acidic and makes it sort of difficult to put down a pint IMO. But still a very interesting pour.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 trokini (1025) - San Diego, California, USA - JAN 20, 2009
Tap @ Hamilton’s. This is not the first IPL I’ve had, but its definitely the best. Pours clear gold with a one-finger white head. Moderate lacing. Sweet, floral hop aroma. Lots of pine and lemongrass, less of the grapefruit/citrus. Sharp, crisp resin bite up front. Mellows a little into a grapefruit-lemon-orange peel sweetness. The lager back enhances the West Coast IPA feel, giving it a sweet finish. I could drink this all night its so smooth. Very well done.
