BrotherGrendel (189), San Diego (La Jolla), California, USA Aug 23, 2008 On draft at Hamilton’s.
Appearance is a translucent light orange hue, moderate white foam dissipates mostly, huge lacing on the glass.
Smell is clean and crisp biscuit malts, moderate grassy hops, some cotton candy sweetness.
Taste is initially pale bread/biscuit malts soon followed by grassy and earthy bittering hops, hints of tea leaves, citrus, and pine, lager yeast, finishes thick and malts with slight alcohol burn.
Mouthfeel is medium-bodied, watery texture with oily resin residual, amped-up carbonation is detracting from the flavor.
Drinkability is high, nice balance of malts and hops in a lager framework, carbonation is overly high, but this is very drinkable for a unique style. WeeHeavySD (2034), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA May 9, 2008 Tap @ Hams. Pours yellow with a bright white head. Nose is light and relatively hoppy. The taste is hoppy and pretty bitter with a resin character. A bit too bitter for my palate. Also my first beer back from being sick. Snojerk321 (1124), San Diego, California, USA May 2, 2008 On tap at the brewery. I was really into this brew. I think the ABV was around 6.5? Great piny nose with some citrus. Went down easy like every lager does. JorisPPattyn (4642), Antwerpen, Belgium Apr 24, 2008 Draught. ??My notes, taken from the blackboard, talk about Fathom IPA?? Good yellow head, leaving some lace: pale orangey beer. Very grapey, dry hops, bit salty/oystershell (high DMS?), fruity end. Dry hops, less bitter than expected, orange marmalade and a pinch of quinine. Medium bodied, slick, some alcohol ’t would seem. Good, if unspectacular. If it is really a lager, then it would be spectacular indeeed. Odeed (1506), Bakersfield, California, USA Apr 2, 2008 (sample from irishboy)as he said.seemed more like an ipa than anything.basically a san diego type ipa.
