22oz bomber pours up with a clear deep gold body that has copper hues and supports a nice looking tan head of foam. The aroma offers up grapefruit, danky spicy onions, a dash of pineapple and then faint soft ginger spice in the background. The taste begins with a pleasing rush of juicy grapefruit, bitter grapefruit and a spicy onion like hoppiness. It then quickly runs into a fairly firm ginger sensation taking this to midway. Into the finish the spicy onion blends with a modest degree of juicy pineapple. Thereís a solid level of ginger in here (well, not really in the aroma) and I thought it was going to be too much. It seems it isnít or after 10oz my palate adjusted.

FROTHINGSLOSH (6641) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 13, 2016
Sampled on draft at Houghís this beer poured a bright golden color with a large foamy yellow-white head that lingered and left incredible lacing. The aroma was bitter, chalky and had citrus and perfume notes. The flavor was bitter, chalky, ginger powder, perfume and harsh fruity hops. Long finish. Medium body. Meh.

Poured from a bottle, San Diego. No hint of ginger in the aroma, which is weak, but very hoppy. Beautiful amber, mild foamy head with good carbonation. Putting ginger in an IPA is a no-brainer, but I donít even taste it! Just a hoppy IPA with a light mouthfeel.

Pours cloudy apricot with a fairly large off white head. Aromas of caramel, peach, ginger, apricot, herbal notes. Taste is fruity and malty with prominent citrusy notes. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation.

$4.99 bomber from Wine Warehouse. Pours slightly hazy golden-amber with a giant beige-yellow head. Smell is ginger, dust, citrus, caramel. Taste is ginger, citrus, dust, caramel, licorice. I donít love it, but itís interesting.

Poured an orange with a white head. Aroma of ginger and old hops. Flavor similar, blah.

Pours hazy orange with a yellowish head. Smells of pine, citrus, and ginger. Taste is piney with a subtle spiciness. Full-bodied with a smooth texture and average mouth-carbonation, Ballast Point Ginger Big Eye finishes with a ginger kiss.

phaleslu (9321) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JUL 12, 2016
Draft at Ei8ht Ball, served in a flight. Pours a cloudy gold with a white head that laces the glass while settling into a ring and film. Definite ginger and pepper spice, with citrus zest, grass, straw, and some pale and sweet malts. Light-bodied, with a bitter, spicy mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Now that Ballast Point has blitzed the market with these variants of their standards, I canít help but think these are gimmicks. The standards have been such high-quality beers and the bases are getting lost under really strong adjuncts. Theyíre not all bad, per se, but they sacrifice depth and nuance to serve the variant.

3.5/5 on appearance, nice medium brown appearance with solid foamy head. Smells great.. like your typical quality IPA, with a hint of sweet ginger (which I may not have suspected if it werenít mentioned). Balanced.. nice malt and citrusy hops. Ginger just a little present, mostly in the aftertaste. Average IPA bitterness, not too much carbonation. I like it.

Brews n chews. Pours a cloudy yellow color. Aromas of ginger and earthy hops. Maybe a bit stale at this point.
