330ml bottle from Club de Cervezas. Pours a bright but hazy orange-golden color with a small white head that diminishes quickly. Aroma is intensely hoppy, IPA-like, with huge fruity character. Notes of tangerines, tangelos, orange peel, tropical fruits, mandarines and spices. A bit peppery and earthy. Quite complex and enticing. Gets better and better. Taste is very bitter, strong and fruity. Sweetness is light in te beginning with some tangelo flavor turning into a bitter citrusy, earthy and peppery bomb. Fruitiness dominates throughout until that powerful end that shows moderate astringency. Long, everlasting aftertaste. Light to medium body. High carbonation. Nice. An intensely aromatic and flavorful IPA-like APA. One of the best APA’s I’ve tried and deserving of all the hype.

Calidad Ballast Point!!

12oz bottle. Pours golden with a white head. Big citrus hop notes. Great tasting brew though in my book this is an IPA all the way. So it almost isn’t fair to compare it to most other pale ales. We must compare oranges to oranges or citrus hops to citrus hops in this case. That said it still does score favorably against the typical IPAs out there. Also, I learned that grunion is a type of fish and not, as I had assumed, a gross onion.

Rated on 4-20-2016 (Bottle) This beer’s appearance consists of a medium sized off-white head, gold transparent body, fast rising carbonation, and spotty amounts of lacing. The aroma is heavily citrus hops, pine hops, grapefruit, floral, fruity, and grassy. The flavor is moderately bitter, citrus and pine hops, grassy, fruity, floral, and caramel malt. This beer’s mouthfeel is moderate carbonation and this is a medium bodied beer. A quaffable beer with a lot of citrus character to it. I did not get any lingering bitter or hoppy aftertaste. It is a beer worth trying.

(Can) Wow wow wow, this immediately stands out as the best beer I’ve ever had from a can. Hops hops hops! Aroma is intensely grapefruity. And when I say grapefruit, I don’t mean that it hints at grapefruit, I mean it really smells like grapefruit, like I actually went to check and smell the grapefruits in the fruit basket, and I think the beer smells more like grapefruit than the grapefruits themselves! It also smells like pineapple, canned pineapple interestingly. And there’s a slight skunky note, which I like. Also a little pine in there. The hops are so complex in this one and I love every bit of them. Flavor is bitter but light, body is medium. There’s a little lingering heaviness in the finish, but overall this is lighter than most IPA’s, which makes me like it more. Very fresh and crisp, but biting.

Growler from SL Tap. Pour was amber in color, clear, good head for the style. Aroma of citrus and grapefruit and some biscuit. Flavor followed, grapefruits clearly at the fore, tropical notes, grass, earthy, caramel in the backbone. Hops at the fore, a very nice pale ale. Body is full and carbonated. Good stuff. Great stuff.

On tap at 109 Brews. It poured a yellow color with a white head. The aroma was of pine, grapefruit and citrus. The taste was similar to the aroma with more pine, grapefruit, florals and hops. Very nice.

Pours a deep golden color. Pungent resinous, oniony, and tarry nose. The flavors are the same. Powerful Pale Ale. Drinks much more like an IPA.

On tap at St. Augustine’s, pours a clear golden copper with a small white head. Aroma is full of tropical fruits, including mango, guava and pineapple. Flavour is along the same lines, with loads of the aforementioned tropical fruits upfront, followed by lots of piney dry hopping and a bone dry biscuity malt backbone. Wonderfully constructed, with so much depth, yet it still comes across like a pale and not an IPA. Excellent.
