4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle. Pours clear amber with creamy white head. Aroma is bready and cereal malts, spice, floral notes, and some tropical fruit notes. Flavor is hop bitterness forward quickly overtaken by habanero spice with slight malt sweetness and faint citrus notes. Medium body and carbonation.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
12 oz bottle. Clear amber pour, white head. Decent retention, minimal lacing. Aroma is basically 100% raw spicy pepper. Pepper concentrate this is. Maybe some caramel behind it, but thereís almost no point to mention it -- this is, in fact, liquid bubbly habanero. The bottle says "heat may vary," so Iím going to assume i got one of the hot ones. Taste is goddamn spicy. Again, liquid bubbly spicy habanero. After the initial shock itís apparent thereís some residual sweetness (reminiscent of pepper jelly) and a fair bit of bitterness, but most of the effect that makes sculpin a good ipa is drowned out by the spice. In fact, itís probably a waste of good hops -- presumably you could brew a shitty ipa with a ton of habanero spice added and Iíd have no way to know. Anyway, medium body, average carbonation, oily fiery mouthfeel. Overall: This is exactly what it claims to be, but outside of the novelty thereís little to recommend it. Unless you love really spicy beers, in which case go to town.

12oz. Goddamn that has some kick to it! My girlie is on the constant hunt for ACTUAL spicy beers, and this definitely does the trick! Mangoish malt going on up front and itís all habanero in the back. The spice lingers. Itís like you have a spicy plate of food in front of you. Awesome!

4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
From a bottle into a goblet. The pour is a slight hazy dark orange with no head. There is a spicy mango hop taste that is great!. Would drink again.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle in Seattle. Gold rich gold. Interesting aroma of dense citrus fruit, rich hops and a touch of the pulp of the pepper. Aroma changes from typical Sculpin in to some wild guava and papaya. Pepper is bright and clear, quite hot, but it admittedly plays well with the fruity IPA. Not my favorite flavors, nor something Iíll be reaching for again, but it does like good spicy food make me want to take another bite (sip) even when I donít understand why. Interesting variation for sure

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a golden amber color with a white head. Hop, habanero, citrus, floral and malt aroma. Big habanero pepper, some citrus, floral and malt flavors. Rather hot. Good but spice completely masks the taste of the beer. Spicy lingering finish.

5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
Pours deep orange with a medium white head. Smells peppery a citrus undertone. Taste is lots of pepper heat, hints of bitterness, a touch of citrus. Medium-bodied with a wet texture and average mouth-carbonation, Ballast Point Habanero Sculpin finishes with a tangy, lingering heat.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
Nice citrus hop aroma. Appearance is gold with white head with below average head for an ipa. The beer has a nice citrus hop flavor. The heat is intense and makes this a sipping beer. Mouthfeel is medium with medium carbonation. Overall, I wouldn't buy it again. I like hot food but this beer is too hot to enjoy. If they cut the heat in half Id really like it though.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pretty good...well real good. A little too spicy for me but yet I can appreciate the craft on this. Fresh habanero flavor, with the great sculpin hop flavor and aroma.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tasted on 1/2/14 from a capped 12oz bottle. Big thanks to Chuck for the hookup. Pours clear, lightly muted orange with an average white head that slowly recedes to average lace, leaving some residue along the inside of the glass. The nose is fresh grapefruit and lightly fruity hops with just a light touch of bread malt, but all of that is quickly covered up by the amazingly spicy aroma of super spicy habaŮero. The flavor is tremendously spicy, really dominating, but there is a good IPA hiding underneath all of it, just not sure it is worth trying to find with this much super long lasting heat. The body is medium with average carbonation and the longest spicy finish of all time. I can understand how some people like this, but it is not for me.
