COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Sculpin IPA is a great example of what got us into brewing in the first place. After years of experimenting, we knew hopping an ale at five separate stages would produce something special. The result ended up being this gold-medal winning IPA, whose inspired use of hops creates hints of apricot, peach, mango and lemon flavors, but still packs a bit of a sting, just like a Sculpin fish.

On draft at The Ginger Man, NYC. The taste is eclipsed by the burning habanero pepper sensation on the palate, which does not add to the flavor, just a lingering burn. Seems the wrong combination for such a quality IPA. A novelty at best.

Pours a light trust orange. Has a sweet cirrus aroma with spices. Taste is immediately spicy like a hot sauce. Stings your mouth a bit.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle stamped SC443-14055. It pours a bronze, amber color with a modest little head that fades to a ring but never goes away. The nose has a nice caramel malt and bitter hop character. Medium body. At first there is a caramel malt character but it does snot take long for the floral hop character to take over. Nice bitter finish. Quite good.

Draft at friendly Greek. Pours golden with an inch of white foam. Has some citrus on the nose. Big fucking habanero on the tongue. Huge. Real, real spicy. Lingers for hours. It is an acquired taste but it’s actually some flavor even as it melts your tongue.

Tap from Lazy Dog. Transparent orange in color with white head. Bitter citrus flavor with lots of hops. Medium bodied with bitter finish. Tasty.

On tap at beermongers - pours orange with a white head, earthy pepper with slight citrus aroma. Balanced heat, zippy hops, the pepper is well showcased.

Tap @ The BeerMongers... Poured clear amber with a thick, lacy white head. Aroma was mostly dank and earthy hops. Heat and chili pepper presence with a clean finish and lingering spiciness. Balanced and not too heavy with the heat and actually pepper flavor which was pleasant.

Draft. No spice in the nose just normal hoppy aroma. As you take the first sip and that’s when the habanero kicks in. It’s hot for a minute but mellows out pretty quick surprisingly. Best Habanero beer I’ve had but you still need to really enjoy spice like that to fully enjoy this beer

Draft sample. Gold in colour with medium carbonation. Aromas are of sharp citrus juices, light malt, and a dusting of pepper. An interesting flavor progression: grapefruit and lime, followed by incendiary (yet very clear) Habanero, then a mix of leafy hops and pepper heat on the finish. The heat is a little much, but you still get a sense of the beer behind it. A half pint serving would have been ideal, but managed to finish a whole pint with little difficulty. I tried to search out the base beer, but came up empty on this trip.

Draft pour. Aroma of hops and spice. Has a good hoppy flavor that is overwhelmed with spice. I like it, but can see how it would turn someone away. Not the most drinkable beer out there, but good overall.
