COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Sculpin IPA is a great example of what got us into brewing in the first place. After years of experimenting, we knew hopping an ale at five separate stages would produce something special. The result ended up being this gold-medal winning IPA, whose inspired use of hops creates hints of apricot, peach, mango and lemon flavors, but still packs a bit of a sting, just like a Sculpin fish.

Tap. This is a novelty beer for me. It seems like a waste of sculpin because it has you focusing on the habanero and you lose the hops flavors. The spiciness it leaves behind in your mouth just seems wrong for a beer. Glad I tried a 4 oz sample. No need to do it again.

From tap@mikkellersthlm Green chili, herbs, roasty, caramel, golden, hazy, minimal head, light sweetness, lightly bitter, medium body, sticky, chili in the finish. Nice chili taste but more body is needed. Not balanced

Typical appearance, good head. Smells of hops, with a touch of pepper. Tastes strong of habanero.. can feel the heat, which is moderate. Smooth otherwise. This is a great beer.

My hopes for this draft were nil, not liking ipa and all but I must say, thios was probably the surprise of the day. Clear pale yellow with the smell of grapefruit and BO. Yes, first swig is spicy hot and I like it. The heat stays there and is reinforced with every swig. Not quite over the top hot but certainly one of the hotter beers I’ve had. The ipa flavors are overridden by the heat and the bitterness is barely perceivable. Best heat beer I’ve had since church brew mole. Good overall beer experience. A fun thang fer sure. Need to get this in a bottle sixer.

Whoa! This one has afterburners! Pours a clear, orange, tiny (if any) head. Smells like a sweet sculpin but with fresh peppers. Initially tastes like a Sculpin, then the habanero heat comes on! Heat is medium but stays with you for a few minutes for each sip. Sculpin & Grapefruit Sculpin are some of the best out there...and this is good for something different. Just don’t want to drink the other 5 beers in this 6 pack over the other stuff in my beer fridge. Best shared with a group of spicy hotheads over some chips and cold guacamole.

This beer is no joke. There isn’t any subtlety here, the habanero is pervasive and it’s hot. Not a bad thing though. I think it helps accentuate the hops and makes them pop a little more. Aroma is what you’d expect from sculpin but with a peppery heat from the habanero. Taste is spicy and bitter. Lots of grapefruit and pine. Dry hot finish that sticks around. This is a really cool take on an excellent ipa. The pepper is big and hot and sticks around. I’m glad the pepper wasn’t subtle, it takes makes this beer awesome and different.

This one is a tough rate for me... Sculpin is my favorite beer, so any addition to it is probably gonna bring it down a notch. Having said that, it is easily the best tasting hot pepper beer I’ve ever had, but it takes an incredible beer and makes it not as enjoyable, IMO. The aroma is big juicy hops, and the flavor is... well, bitter hot pepper. It goes nicely with pizza, but I found myself wishing it was just plain old regular Sculpin.

Smells and looks like regular sculpin but that is where the similarities end. The taste is initially hoppy but after about a second the heat takes over and it lingers for a while. I am surprised by how strong the hot, peppery flavor is and can actually feel it on my lips. This is an interesting beer but I won’t be trying it again other than to give it to someone who thinks it is a regular beer to see their reaction.

Tap @ Bishops Arms Hornsgatan. Clear, golden / copper, white fluffy head. Wow, the aroma hits hard, pepper, chilli and mango, kind of punches the inside of my nose. Medium body, strong and hot, oily mouthfeel. The taste burns with a big bite. Chili pepper and tropical fruit. The heat and pepper dominates, there are more flavors under the heat, but its hard to taste them.

Draught @ BrewDog Gbg. Pours clear golden with a rather small frothy offwhite head that leaves some thick trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is tiny malty, fruity and spicy with caramel, grapefruit, mango, pineapple, red chilli, moist grass, pine needles and lemon zest. Taste is tiny sweet, bitter, slightly fruity and heavy spicy. Mouthfeel is astringent, spicy hot and medium bodied. Finish is bitter with crackers, caramel, grapefruit, red habanero, moist grass, pine needles and lemon zest. I like habanero but this is pretty much carpet bombing of the base beer. All that remains is the habanero and we’re not talking the aromatic and fruity orange kind but the pretty much just hot red supermarket kind.

Keg at Brewdog Bar cons 2016-06-26 Göteborg AR: bready, dried tropical fruits AP: clear coppery, frothy white head F: hot metallic habanero chili, cucumber, lemon juice, perhaps you could use it when making food for spicing things up, to hot - didn’t enjoy it all
