COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Sculpin IPA is a great example of what got us into brewing in the first place. After years of experimenting, we knew hopping an ale at five separate stages would produce something special. The result ended up being this gold-medal winning IPA, whose inspired use of hops creates hints of apricot, peach, mango and lemon flavors, but still packs a bit of a sting, just like a Sculpin fish.

Tap. This is a novelty beer for me. It seems like a waste of sculpin because it has you focusing on the habanero and you lose the hops flavors. The spiciness it leaves behind in your mouth just seems wrong for a beer. Glad I tried a 4 oz sample. No need to do it again.

Not for me. Pours clear golden with lots of head and clumpy lacing. Nose is fruity and not much hint of the spice. Flavours have some initial citrus fruit but then a massive spice attack, burying anything else. Taste med bitter and MASSIVE slice. Body is all spicy bite.

Bottle: Heat and juicy fruit with a touch of resin...Right to the edge of drinkability. But yeah I am drinking it nicely.

Looks very much like regular Sculpin, whose orange color also coincidentally happen to match the skin of a Habanero pepper. The head atop the clear body was two to three fingers thick. foamy, and durable. The aroma was very hoppy and did not bring to mind any kind of pepper, as I could detect grapefruit and orange rind. On deeper inhaling there possibly was a hint of chili pepper, or may be it was just my imagination. The taste however had a very definite pepper kick to it. The Habanero was once considered the hottest pepper in the world, and while it has since given up that crown, it was still king of this beer. The pepper head was clearly evident in every sip, forcing the normally dominant citric hops to play second fiddle. It was quite one dimensional, and it was glorious. The feel was medium thick, with a pepper burn at the end of each sip. This was not quite a harmonious pairing like the Grapefruit Sculpin. Instead it was a showcase for pepper lovers.

Label says "hear May vary". Pours clear copper color with white head. Aroma is juicy citrus, tropical fruits, mango, pine, and that beautiful habanero pepper spiciness. Flavor is big juicy grapefruit, mango, and tropical fruits. Grapefruit and pine finish with habanero pepper spiciness. Substantial amount of heat. Peppery heat left lingering on tongue. This brew is the real deal. One of the few beers with spicy peppers that delivers. If you canít handle spicy food you have no business trying this brew.

Nothing subtle about this. Assertive habanero heat and fruitiness accompanied by bright citrus and tropical additions. Capsaicin is noticeable and builds as your drink it. Becomes distracting. Iím a sweaty dude already. This doesnít help at all.

Taster from the Grille Next Door. Deep golden color with a huge sticky white head. Big capsaicin mixed with earthy pine on the nose. The heat lingers coating the throat all the way down. Good in a small dose, glad I got a tiny glass.

Draught at the Ballast Point Miramar. Clear golden colour with a small white head. Very strong habanero in the aroma. The chili really dominates the aroma. The flavour is malt and habanero. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

It smells like a hoppy IPA with a hint of habanero, as expected. The initial flavor is the pepper, the burn is on the back of palate and through the finish. Almost of the verge of being too spicy for me, but just perfect on the burn. Not sure I'd drink a full pint.

The spiciest beer you may ever drink. Smells, tastes, and lingers like a real habanero pepper.
