Tap at Ballast Point. The beer pours to a dark amber glowing golden body with a white head. The aroma is simply 100% Sculpin with no peppers. The flavor is Sculpin, but it showcases the delicious flavor of the habanero pepper. I thought it had some heat, but not in that way that most of the spicy beers are (green peppers and hot). This beer was a marvelous rendition in that the pepper component came through as expected, rather than a nasty green pepper with heat. It actually blended quite well, and was a highlight of the evening!

(Draught at Beachwood) clear medium gold, fine white bubbles. Nose of habanero, hop candy, candied citrus zest, and light pine. Taste of candied citrus, pine, lightly spicy, warming plate linger.

Draft pours golden amber capped by a slight off white head that leaves some lacing. Nose of pepper. Taste is pure heat, peppers, and some citrus on the finish. The heat is strong and lingering. An impresssive example of what can be done, but this is virtually a beer one could never turn into a session.

On tap at Hunah Day. nose is mostly straight sculpin, hop explosion with a faint spice to it. Taste is much more spicy, extremely peppery and hot in the finish with the juicy hops up front. Spice is so strong and lingers.

2013-04-20. Modest aroma, light spice, hops. 7+ Flavour is briefly lovely, citrus hops are a glimpse of something. Then burny... jeebus f-ck! Oh god, why did I drink this! Average palate. A perfectly good IPA ruined. On tap at Coles, Buffalo

On tap at the Public House at ATT Park during a heartwrenching loss to the D-Backs. Poured a nice golden orange with a medium off white head. Nose was hoppy and spicy, that fresh pepper thing going on, and of course the taste had that fire to it, with a long lasting burn. Very good stuff, could get addicted to the pepper beer thing.

2 words: fuck yes. Tropical, habanero, medium to high spiciness, good throat tingle, bitterness adds to the heat. Fuck yes.

Tap at Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours amber gold with a hoppy aroma. Med body. Flavor is quite hot. Not ghost chili, but hot. Goes well with the malt and hop, though parsing the hop profile is not to be done. Gives a bit of a burn, but not necessarily more than a major NW DIPA. The best thing is it’s not overdone. I’m sure I would never guess this to be Sculpin on a blind taste, but it works really well.

Poured an orangish color at Hunhapu day, with huge aromas of hot peppers, and light hops. Flavors are the same, all hot pepper meat, light pepper flesh, and a touch of hops. Pepper flavor lingers on the palate.

Aroma is dominated by pepper, ditto on the flavor. Its very clean and well done, but the original hop goodness is very much in the background. Would be great if the pepper was toned down a notch. Medium heat level, pretty good overall.
