1.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 4/20
Pours golden with low off-white head. Minimal lacing. Aroma is of peppers, slight malt. Taste is of peppers, hot (extreme) peppers, very slight malt. Palate: Medium carbonation. Medium body [Note that I had a very hard time rating the palate as I could barely dare to take other sips]. Overall: This beer is straight-up gross. Extremely hot/peppery. This is not serious. Burning aftertaste. No complexity to speak of. Stear clear of this one.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft pours golden amber capped by a slight off white head that leaves some lacing. Nose of pepper. Taste is pure heat, peppers, and some citrus on the finish. The heat is strong and lingering. An impresssive example of what can be done, but this is virtually a beer one could never turn into a session.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Sample at Khyber with Vin, Pat and Janine. Poured a clean gold with average white head and lacing. Aroma of citrus and piney hops with mild pepper aromas. Really interesting drink. Sweet malts hit you at first, then really fresh habaneros, with a slightly bitter hoppy pine and citrus finish. The pepper taste is strong but I didn’t find the heat as off-putting as others. Interesting drink but I think the sample was enough for me.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
"Wow. Ballast does it again. One of my very favorite IPAs spiced up enough to notice, but not so much it takes away ANYTHING from the hoppy tropical goodness that is Sculpin. Light peppers on the nose, a little more in the flavor. Sublime!!"

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at Flanny's, copper pour, not much head. Aroma is hop forward with the habanero pretty well hidden. Taste definitely is pronounced with that spicy bite. Good, but another beer that takes awhile to drink.

A - Served a golden-orange color with a thin layer of white head atop. The head faded fairly quickly leaving behind a touch of lace.
S - Aroma is a mix of sweet caramel malts and grassy/piney hops. The pepper is noticeable in the background but not too strong.
T - Starts off with a mix of caramel sweetness and piney hops and bitterness. There is some growing heat in the background from the pepper, but not too strong. Through the middle, the heat grows a bit along with stronger bitterness. As the beer finishes, the heat explodes and takes over and lingers for quite a while.
M - Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation. It feels pretty smooth and super hot, and keeps your tongue on fire for a while.
D - Very much a sipping beer. It is so hot that if you drink it any faster it would be painful. Not really what I would call balanced, but a very interesting beer.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Pours a golden color with a white head. Aroma is hops and malt and citrus with no hint of habanero. Up front sculpin is its aweslme self.and.then the burn comes. A perfect well integrated not too over.the.top burn. I don’t understand the bad ratings this beer is awesome.

4.2 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft keg and cask at the brewpub. Pours just like a sculpin... Light orange color, good head. Nose is punch in the face of spicey habanero peppers... Taste just like habanero peppers and sculpin. Two things that I love! Bitter mango piney grapefruit infused with a burning habanero. Tingles the lips just a little, burns the back of your throat and nose. Chapps your ass! Its spicey! Light and refreshing easy to drink. Overall: I went back to Ballast point just to get this for a second time. Very unique

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tap at Blind Tiger shared by Maxxdaddy (thanks!). Golden orange pour. Aroma and flavor are both pure pepper: habanero backed by green bell. Legitimate spiciness without being intolerable. I consider this treatment a success.

3.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Sculpin habanero IPA: spicy hop aroma, clear gold with a small white head. Heat up front and lingering on the back of your throat. Definitely the dominant characteristic. Hard to notice other flavors but hops are detected for sure. Solid offering
