3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap @ Rattle N Hum courtesy of infi. Thanks Jonathan!. It’s a really cloudy looking one this, almost murky brown in the glass with a small off-white head on top. It has a nice fresh grassy herbal tea-like nose with traces of chocolate paper and dark malts. A bit strange but nice. In the mouth it’s light oily with a soft carbonation level. I get some soft prickling hints of the habanero, but its nowhere as warming as I was expecting. Some more chocolate paper also appears. Tea like finish. A good one, but I was really hoping for a bit more punch. 14.06.2013

This beer takes the always impressive sculpin and adds huge peppery spice on the finish. Quite phenomenally done as it doesn’t detract from the original and never becomes too much. Great stuff

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draught @ BrewDog Gbg. Pours clear golden with a rather small frothy offwhite head that leaves some thick trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is tiny malty, fruity and spicy with caramel, grapefruit, mango, pineapple, red chilli, moist grass, pine needles and lemon zest. Taste is tiny sweet, bitter, slightly fruity and heavy spicy. Mouthfeel is astringent, spicy hot and medium bodied. Finish is bitter with crackers, caramel, grapefruit, red habanero, moist grass, pine needles and lemon zest. I like habanero but this is pretty much carpet bombing of the base beer. All that remains is the habanero and we’re not talking the aromatic and fruity orange kind but the pretty much just hot red supermarket kind.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cask draft at the Blind Tiger in New York City. Pour is a very hazy, unfiltered orange golden with a smallish off white head. The aroma is grapefruit and mildly dank hops, along with a dry, clean habanero spice. The two aromas do not necessarily blend, but they do coexist in an interesting way. The taste is straight hoppy Sculpin up front, then transitions very much into a spicy Habanero pepper beer. As with the nose, really interesting, and really clean, but the two flavors just really do not totally work together. Palate is a nice medium unfiltered body, with a soft cask mouth feel. The after taste is crazy dry, and somewhat hot pepper spice. This was fun, but I think I would have liked to try normal Sculpin on cask more.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Looks just like the regular sculpin...retention and lacing arent quite as good. Aroma is also the same but has just a touch of vegetal pepper. Flavor is sculpin all the way with peppery heat in the end that burns pleasantly for some time. Mouthfeel is medium and the finish is dry and peppery hot.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tap@bishops, gamla stan. Copper clear. Fruity pines, caramels on nose. Not that much bell pepper/chili just yet. Med bodied, nice soft bitter caramelly, and a good capsasin kick. Smooth nice, and for once, a well spiced chili beer. Habanero pretty clearly present in the flavour (sort of murky bell peppery, black pepper) as well. Ipa for chiliheads. I would venture this has a scoville of tabasco, so some tolerance is required for proper enjoyment.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz bottle at Freshcraft. Darker gold and clear appearance with a lacy white head. Fresh aroma of citrus fruits, tropical fruits, floral notes and just a touch of peppery spice. The flavor is similar, but the habanero really comes through here, particularly on the finish. Pretty mild at first, but getting pretty intense towards the end. Still enjoyable and fun to drink, although, I couldn’t drink more than one.

Tap at Ballast Point. The beer pours to a dark amber glowing golden body with a white head. The aroma is simply 100% Sculpin with no peppers. The flavor is Sculpin, but it showcases the delicious flavor of the habanero pepper. I thought it had some heat, but not in that way that most of the spicy beers are (green peppers and hot). This beer was a marvelous rendition in that the pepper component came through as expected, rather than a nasty green pepper with heat. It actually blended quite well, and was a highlight of the evening!
