COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Sculpin IPA is a great example of what got us into brewing in the first place. After years of experimenting, we knew hopping an ale at five separate stages would produce something special. The result ended up being this gold-medal winning IPA, whose inspired use of hops creates hints of apricot, peach, mango and lemon flavors, but still packs a bit of a sting, just like a Sculpin fish.

Orange color. Sizable off white head. Lacing plasters the side of the glass. Aromas of malt hops and pepper skins. Taste is very much fresh hot peppers. Spicy.

Excellent beer, tho I like the Grapefruit version more. This does have the very intriguing aroma with the fruity hop malt caramel thing. Flavor loses almost all of the fruit and gets fairly dry with mostly malty hop and a little capsicum taste. Body is great and the heat from the Habenero is just right. Good drinking brew.

Poured on tap, my wife hates spicey foods but really enjoys pepper beers, this one was a little too much for her though, pours a clear dark copper red with a light white head and lacing, the aroma has quite a bit of spice and pepper on the nose backed with a good amount of citrus too, the first drink is hot, it hits you right away but the citrus and tropical fruit seem to numb it after you finish it. The more I drank it the more mellow it seemed to get, I enjoyed this.

Yeah so this is an ipa with a serious Habanero kick. Nice experiment but IMO Habanero as opposed to Chipotle or whatever is just too spicy for a beer

Cask at GBBF 2011. An amber coloured pour with a medium white head. Hoppy aroma. Tastes like an IPA with curry powder and chillis thrown in, this really did not work, I had to pour it away after a couple of sips. Quite horrid!

Draft at The Pour House in Westmont, NJ. Pours a slightly hazy, dark golden orange color with tangerine edges and a 1.5 finger white head that slowly settles into a lasting ring. Streaks of soapy lacing left behind. Complex aroma with an interesting balance of ground pepers, earthy hops, tropical fruit and pale malts. Somewhat chalky with noticeable peppers but they don’t interfere too much with the base beer. Slightly vegetal with pepper, orange peel, grapefruit and pineapple along with graham cracker and biscuity malt. Similar to aroma with a bit more pepper than I expected. Still it doesn’t completely overpower the characteristics of the base beer. Earthy, piney hops followed by sweet pepper and fiery heat that builds, lingering throughout. Some tropical and citrus fruit sweetness but this is a bit muted because of the peppers. Subtle pale malt backbone with hints of biscuit, bread and cracker. Pretty complex with a nice heat/pepper addition but some of the best elements of regular sculpin are overshadowed as a result.

Golden hazy pour thin creamy off white head orange tint and light sticky lacing .. aroma is pretty much like regular sculpin, citrusy and tropical fruity hops .... taste well thats a different story ... for a few seconds you get a light tropical citrusy fruity hop flavors along with some caramel malts and then it is all heat .... spicy and hot peppers that pretty much hit the back of my mouth and tongue and numbed my lips ... bitter peppery finish ... in one word heat ... but interesting brew no trace of abv ... good for one beer, not gonna taste much after drinking it though

Clear yellow golden in color... Aroma of crisp citrus hops... Flavor is dominated by spicy habanero, spicy kick initially on the palate, gives way to lingering heat, but does not mask the crisp dryness and bitterness of the sculpin.... Nice combo ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: DEC 17, 2014 On draft at Issacs Amber pour with a floral hoppy aroma. The peppery flavor blends nice with the Caramel malts and curry.
