COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Sculpin IPA is a great example of what got us into brewing in the first place. After years of experimenting, we knew hopping an ale at five separate stages would produce something special. The result ended up being this gold-medal winning IPA, whose inspired use of hops creates hints of apricot, peach, mango and lemon flavors, but still packs a bit of a sting, just like a Sculpin fish.

Tap sample. Poured clear copper color with an average frothy white head that lasted with good lacing. Medium body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Moderate to heavy sour citrus hoppy and roasted pepper aroma. Moderate to heavy bittersweet and hot flavor with a moderate to heavy hot and bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. Solid brew.

Draft. Crystal clear amber body with medium off-white head. Aroma is medium sweet, grapefruit/orange, light chili pepper. Taste is medium sweet, orange/grapefruit. Faint chili burn in the finish with slight cumulative effect. Very restrained for a pepper beer (especially compared with Ballast Point’s Thai Ginger Chile Wahoo Wheat). Medium body, light acidity, low carbonation.

Sweet rich fleshy fruit aroma. Smooth sweet palate. Powerful burn, but not totally mental. I actually quite liked it, but it is a silly gimmick.

Woh, you can smell the chili, but there’s a sour aspect to it as well. Erm, tastes of chillis. Finish is just a hot burn. Barely distinguishable from Cave Creek Chilli Beer, to be honest. However, later there is quite a lot of perfume, so it is different, not just chilli. But still is not good.

Cask at the GBBF 2011. Golden with a small white head. The aroma has lots green pepper and a bit of grass. The flavour is insanely hot, but actually has some interesting complexity - just too bad you can’t taste it

On tap at Brouwer’s Cafe, pours a hazy golden orange with a medium white head. Aroma brings out loads of habanero peppers, maybe some slight hoppy notes lingering. Flavour is extremely spicy, with loads of habanero pepper without destroying the palate. The hops are still somewhat present, but the peppers dominate. Really well done - quite the punch in the mouth without being absurdly overwhelming.

A golden amber ale with a thin off white head. In aroma, interesting mix of biscuit malt, floral hops, and hot pepper, nice. In mouth, a nice biscuit malt with floral hops and loads of hot pepper, burning, not bad. On tap at Breukelyn Bier Merchants.
