COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Sculpin IPA is a great example of what got us into brewing in the first place. After years of experimenting, we knew hopping an ale at five separate stages would produce something special. The result ended up being this gold-medal winning IPA, whose inspired use of hops creates hints of apricot, peach, mango and lemon flavors, but still packs a bit of a sting, just like a Sculpin fish.

Draught @ Brouwerís Cafť:   Orange hued golden, thin to moderate foamy white head, decent lacing.   Noticeable heat on the nose.   Soft hop otherwise.   I am a bit concerned given the heat coming off of this one.   On the tongue its like being hit by a truck.   Very strong Habanero, too strong if you ask me.   Overshadows everything else in this beer.   Too hot, too spicy, and too much.   Seems like they ruined already fantastic Sculpin.   Damnit!

Pour on tap, hazy orange pour with white head, aroma brought notes of thick caramel, orange peel, grapefruit notes, hints of slight pepper but not much, slight grass and pine notes as well. Taste is similar, some nice orange, grapefruit, hints of lemon, nice tropical fruit into caramel, slight pepper, then comes the heat and blows the rest of the beer out. Unfortunate, but tasty until that point.

Draft. Pours gold with a thin white head. Piney hoppy and fruity aroma with light peppery notes. The flavor has piney hops and spicy peppery heat. Heat lasts through the finish. Solid stuff, but I like just the base sculpin better.

On tap, golden pour, white foam, pretty soft and plain until the heat kicks in, not as hot as ghost but has a bite, hot lasting finish

Drank in Denver for GABF 2012. I can see how this would get differing ratings. It is good, and it is exactly what they want it to be I think. Pours a clear copper color with a medium white head. Honestly, not a big pepper nose. The flavor though is initial sweep Sculpin but then a blast of heat and habenero. Lingers hot on the tongue. Cool to try.

draft at Coles. Orange amber pour. Lots of heat in aroma & flavor. Heat masks the bitterness almost completly. Not overbearing heat but quite substantial. drinkable

On tap at Stone 17th. Pours golden with a white head. Aroma of bell pepper, malt, some peach and grapefruit. Flavor is sweet and hot with some burning habanero, bell pepper and bitterness. Medium body, average carbonation.

Draft shared on tap at Aces and Ales 2 (Las Vegas, NV). Pours an amber orange hue, very healthy glow, faint haze. Frothy whitish head stays as a filmy layer, laces ok. Aromas are more hoppy, floral and grassy, touches of citrus fruit but more gentle. Faint pepper spice. Initial is lighter end of the fold, some spice and citrusy hops mix. A lighter body with some nice peppery spice that grows in a wave. Citrusy hops die out from the front end, with some gentle bread, faint fruit. Middle is spicy, pepper driven, earthy and a touch smokey, medium to firm heat spice. Backend is spicy, dry, and gentle bready malts. The pepper element is firm, stronger, but not ovewhelming for my palate (as a pepper fan admittedly). Some nice spice lines the throat and esophagus. Finis is spice, bready, dry. Some touches of lingering floral hops. Really integrated well. The pepper seemingly kills the hops.. Or maybe itís just an older keg and the hops have faded a bit. Either way, itís a very nice beer on itís own. Nice.

On tap at the Common Table. Yellow with a white head. The aroma has a bit of pine but what really comes through is the habanero. The flavor is similar. While there may be a bit of the IPA character in there, I get a ton of hot, spicy pepper. As I drink more, the beer gets hotter and hotter. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Interesting, but the pepper was too overwhelming for me.

On tap. Clear dark golden with a fluffy white head. Strong pepper aroma and some hops on the nose. Taste is all hot pepper with a lot of capsicum on the finish. Not my thing.
