3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft. Pours a golden body with a white head. Light floral grapefruit tones get lost among a huge pepper, dried pepper, and spicy pepper notes. I donít eat many peppers so i have to be a bit non-discript. Huge heat tones, loads of pepper quite hot actually, for me. Just had a bit of a this and it works, why because the base beer is awesome. Of course iíd rather have the base beer without the peppers, still a fun experiment.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
A: The beer pours a clear golden orange color with about a finger of white head.
S: At first the fruity and citrusy hops are all you smell. But soon after the habanero pepper provides some heat and a little bit of its fruitiness as well. Notes of pineapple and grass round out the nose.
T: The flavor has retained a lot of the great hoppiness that makes Sculpin what it is. Still a good amount of tropical fruit and citrus with a mild pine. The pepper flavor is mild at first but comes out a bit more as it warms. There is a definite heat on the back of the throat.
M: Medium in body and perhaps on the low end of medium in carbonation.
O: This was much better than I had anticipated, but I canít help but feel like itís just a big waste of Sculpin.

Tap. Gold pour. Small white head. Aroma of grapefruit and pine. Taste of grapefruit, pine, and habanero. What stood out about this beer is that it burns the lips and has a spicy aftertaste. The burn is nowhere near that of a real habanero. Iíd say it is at the level of tabasco sauce. This beer would go good with chicken tacos.

On tap. Clear dark golden with a fluffy white head. Strong pepper aroma and some hops on the nose. Taste is all hot pepper with a lot of capsicum on the finish. Not my thing.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap takeover at Coleís in Buffalo. Pours great golden amber with fresh head. Hoppy aroma of the regular Sculpin IPA mixes with the spice. Taste is hot and the heat is certainly there, dominating over the hoppiness.

Aroma is dominated by pepper, ditto on the flavor. Its very clean and well done, but the original hop goodness is very much in the background. Would be great if the pepper was toned down a notch. Medium heat level, pretty good overall.

On tap at Tustin Brewing. Looks like Sculpin, kinda smells like Sculpin, tastes like.... Holy crap that burns!! :). Very interesting twist on one of my favorite beers. It really is hot, but you get used to it after a bit and itís really good with food (hot wings!). Itís kind of hard to pick out the nuances through the heat, but itís the best chili beer Iíve ever had.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
11 aug 2002, tap at the brewery. Dark yellow, clear, no bubbles. Nose is faint green chili and malt. IPA nose is completely gone. Med/thin body and almost flat. Lots of habanero and not much else. Straw and habanero. Fire up front but it fades fast.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft at OBriens. Clear bright golden pour, white head with nice lacing. Tropical fruity hops initially, and then dominate fresh habanero peppers, very hot and spicy. Glad to have tried it, but I probably wonít drink this again.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pour on tap, hazy orange pour with white head, aroma brought notes of thick caramel, orange peel, grapefruit notes, hints of slight pepper but not much, slight grass and pine notes as well. Taste is similar, some nice orange, grapefruit, hints of lemon, nice tropical fruit into caramel, slight pepper, then comes the heat and blows the rest of the beer out. Unfortunate, but tasty until that point.
