COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Sculpin IPA is a great example of what got us into brewing in the first place. After years of experimenting, we knew hopping an ale at five separate stages would produce something special. The result ended up being this gold-medal winning IPA, whose inspired use of hops creates hints of apricot, peach, mango and lemon flavors, but still packs a bit of a sting, just like a Sculpin fish.

dark gold, with one finger foamy head. Strong pungent hop aroma, with some hints of grapefruit. Very well balanced taste for a big west coast IPA, plenty of hops but also nice body and some malty characters. The habanero character is fantastic. Just a bit of heat on the nose, and then a nice capsicum burn on the finish.

On tap at the Stone 17th anniversary festival. Golden in color, clear, and with a small white head. Chili, green bell pepper, pine cones, peaches and a faint malty touch in the aroma. Loads of chili warmth on the palate, full body. Nice carbonation. Burning finish with some ipa flavors. Chili, pine cones and some malty flavors initially. Way too warming this one, but still nice. 130817

Tap at Maxís. Pours lightly hazy orange with a medium, frothy white head, short retention with good lacing. Aroma is pine, resin, and citrus hops, habenero, and cracker malt. Flavor is spicy peppers, heavy hops and bitterness, supporting malt and a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.

From memory. On draft. After a few swirls and a few sips, it was very clear this was a hot pepper infused beer. Can't say I got much more then simply spicy peppers on the nose and palate. Spicy capsicum heat lingers on the palate for minutes. Best enjoyed with food.. Chips, tacos, burritos, etc.. Glad I got to experience this.. I would only order this again with the above mention foods. Worth trying. --- tasted while on a long journey to understand the world around me...

Draft at DoG Street Pub. Lovely aroma of fresh fruits and sweet malt. Light caramel in the background as well. Taste is fruity for a few moments and slightly sweet then goes directly to peppery Habanero heat. It kind of dominates at this point. Not much else going on. Body is medium with a moderate bubbly carbonation and LOTS of lingering heat from the peppers. Ends with more peppery spices with touches of caramel, malt and fresh fruit notes. Habanero is a touch one-sided on the palate.

Draft. Pours a golden body with a white head. Light floral grapefruit tones get lost among a huge pepper, dried pepper, and spicy pepper notes. I donít eat many peppers so i have to be a bit non-discript. Huge heat tones, loads of pepper quite hot actually, for me. Just had a bit of a this and it works, why because the base beer is awesome. Of course iíd rather have the base beer without the peppers, still a fun experiment.

A: The beer pours a clear golden orange color with about a finger of white head. S: At first the fruity and citrusy hops are all you smell. But soon after the habanero pepper provides some heat and a little bit of its fruitiness as well. Notes of pineapple and grass round out the nose. T: The flavor has retained a lot of the great hoppiness that makes Sculpin what it is. Still a good amount of tropical fruit and citrus with a mild pine. The pepper flavor is mild at first but comes out a bit more as it warms. There is a definite heat on the back of the throat. M: Medium in body and perhaps on the low end of medium in carbonation. O: This was much better than I had anticipated, but I canít help but feel like itís just a big waste of Sculpin.

Tap. Gold pour. Small white head. Aroma of grapefruit and pine. Taste of grapefruit, pine, and habanero. What stood out about this beer is that it burns the lips and has a spicy aftertaste. The burn is nowhere near that of a real habanero. Iíd say it is at the level of tabasco sauce. This beer would go good with chicken tacos.
