COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Sculpin IPA is a great example of what got us into brewing in the first place. After years of experimenting, we knew hopping an ale at five separate stages would produce something special. The result ended up being this gold-medal winning IPA, whose inspired use of hops creates hints of apricot, peach, mango and lemon flavors, but still packs a bit of a sting, just like a Sculpin fish.

Cask @ Blind Tiger. Orange pour with no real head. While it is nice to try a different sculpin, this is essentially great ipa plus hot, for those who like peppers this is a must, although bit too hot for me. A couple ounces were enough for me.

On cask at the PP Carlsbad Real Ale fest. It pours orange with a cream colored head. The aroma is nice with the peppers only playing a minor part to the fresh citrusy hops. The flavor is all dominated by hot peppers. There is some citrus notes in there as it burns your throat on the way down. Its actually a pretty cool beer, but I can’t help but feel like the pepper ruins a classic IPA.

The habanero! On draft at Blue Dog Tavern in Chalfont, PA. Even though I knew the kick was coming, I still didn't expect this kind of spice from a beer. Great IPA on its on, which I would expect from Ballast Point, but the habanero really separates it from other good/great IPAs.

Poured an orangish color at Hunhapu day, with huge aromas of hot peppers, and light hops. Flavors are the same, all hot pepper meat, light pepper flesh, and a touch of hops. Pepper flavor lingers on the palate.

Draft at pour house . Pours clear copper with a small white head. The aroma is a mix of pine, pine , pine , pepper. The taste is medium bitter with sone heat on the finish.

UPDATED: AUG 4, 2013 Draft sample poured a golden color with a thin coat of off white head. Aroma has big citrus, pine resins, and a huge hit of habanero. Mouth feel is medium and the carbonation average. Flavor again has a huge hit of habanero spice, citrus, juicy tropical hops, and a finish with heat that just lingers. Whoa this has a bit of heat to it so much so it is hard to take in the hops.

Cask draft at the Blind Tiger in New York City. Pour is a very hazy, unfiltered orange golden with a smallish off white head. The aroma is grapefruit and mildly dank hops, along with a dry, clean habanero spice. The two aromas do not necessarily blend, but they do coexist in an interesting way. The taste is straight hoppy Sculpin up front, then transitions very much into a spicy Habanero pepper beer. As with the nose, really interesting, and really clean, but the two flavors just really do not totally work together. Palate is a nice medium unfiltered body, with a soft cask mouth feel. The after taste is crazy dry, and somewhat hot pepper spice. This was fun, but I think I would have liked to try normal Sculpin on cask more.

On tap at Blind Tiger. Pours clear gold, has typical hoppy aroma with some citrus and pine, but also has a nice hot pepper aroma, you can almost smell the heat. The pepper really comes through on the taste, although a bit more as heat and less as a peppery flavor. Not as good as classic Sculpin, but an interesting variation that was nice to try.

(Draught) Pours a cloudy maize orange body with a small white head. Aroma of Orange Julius , grain, caramel, chilies, and nuts. Flavor of grain, grass, subtle habanero, and orange with bitter finish.

Phone rate. Cask at O’Brien’s. Cloudy orange with 1/2 finger off-white head, dissipating to a thick ring rather quickly. Tropical citrus rind nose typical of regular Sculpin, tinge of vegetal notes behind.flavor follows, having a little trouble deciphering between fruity hops and habañero. This does pack substantial heat from the start, and builds throughout the pint, as expected. Probably about at my limit--any more heat would make it unenjoyable. Bitterness peaked at a 6, dry. Medium body with cask carbonation. Could be too hot for some. Burps vegetal. Tasty for the pint I had!
