3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
11 aug 2002, tap at the brewery. Dark yellow, clear, no bubbles. Nose is faint green chili and malt. IPA nose is completely gone. Med/thin body and almost flat. Lots of habanero and not much else. Straw and habanero. Fire up front but it fades fast.

Draft at OBriens. Clear bright golden pour, white head with nice lacing. Tropical fruity hops initially, and then dominate fresh habanero peppers, very hot and spicy. Glad to have tried it, but I probably wonít drink this again.

I was expecting this to be a pepper bomb. But this was well balanced. Lively citrus hop notes at first then the spice kicks in. Donít know if I could do a whole pint but was much impressed.

Clear orange color with no head. Aroma of pepper, citrus, and hops. Lots of habenero upfront with citrus sweetness right behind it. Not sure what possessed one to add habenero to a very good IPA, but this works.

3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours hazy golden color with medium tight white head that laces all the way down. Aroma is sweet juicy flowery hops with no real hint of what is to come. Taste is dank hoppiness with biting grapefruit citrus and a nice malty backbone. Follow through turns to pepper heat and all else is lost from then on. I guess it is an interesting beer if you love the pepper heat or just something different in general. Iím a big fan of regular sculpin and I personally wouldnít want to mess with it much. Overall kind of hard to rate as the pepper really takes over and thatís really all you get from then on. Starts off like regular complex sculpin and then blows up with heat.

The Sampler, Brooklyn tap: Tried a sampler glass full of this. Pours golden with a white head. Aroma is a combination of habanero pepper and west coast hops, laid upon a malt backbone. Taste is spicy. The habanero does overpower the hops, but by just enough to make the beer interesting. This isnít something to repeat or even drink an entire glass of, but it is an interesting example of what can be done with the combination of beer and spice.

Sweet rich fleshy fruit aroma. Smooth sweet palate. Powerful burn, but not totally mental. I actually quite liked it, but it is a silly gimmick

Golden hazy pour thin creamy off white head orange tint and light sticky lacing .. aroma is pretty much like regular sculpin, citrusy and tropical fruity hops .... taste well thats a different story ... for a few seconds you get a light tropical citrusy fruity hop flavors along with some caramel malts and then it is all heat .... spicy and hot peppers that pretty much hit the back of my mouth and tongue and numbed my lips ... bitter peppery finish ... in one word heat ... but interesting brew no trace of abv ... good for one beer, not gonna taste much after drinking it though

Weird pepper vegetable aroma. Pretty spicy in the throat - habanero veggie taste overshadows the key aspect of sculpin hops. Can't drink more than a few sips
