COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Sculpin IPA is a great example of what got us into brewing in the first place. After years of experimenting, we knew hopping an ale at five separate stages would produce something special. The result ended up being this gold-medal winning IPA, whose inspired use of hops creates hints of apricot, peach, mango and lemon flavors, but still packs a bit of a sting, just like a Sculpin fish.

2 words: fuck yes. Tropical, habanero, medium to high spiciness, good throat tingle, bitterness adds to the heat. Fuck yes.

Tap at Savor. This was just overall wonderful stuff. The habanero spice and heat really integrate well with the west coast boisterous IPA style. Citric and spicy with a slightly spicy hot finish. Pour me another!

Draft - pours yellow/amber w/frothy white head. Nice grapefruit and tangerine notes in the nose. Grapefruits, tangerines and a nice balance of habanero peppers in the mouth. The pepper is quite nice and not too overpowering. It's there and you can't miss but it adds a wonderful affect to a great beer. I like it!!! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Amazing, great hops and the spice that pairs with hops, all in one glass! It’s the thin, dry, citrus you know frmo sculpin with the peppers hitting the back side and providing a burning peppery finish. Get it if you can.

Loved this because it held all the flavor profile of the awesome Sculpin IPA and added a zing of heat to it without being overpowering.

Draft at Jerry’s. Dark gold with big, foamy, white head, good lacing / Bright nose of citrus, weed, cut pine, honey / Medium body, crisp, excellent balance with bitter finish, and very spicy / Flavors of honey, grapefruit, cut pine, resin, very hot but not much of a vegetal flavor / Very nice, with quite a spice kick.

On tap at beermongers - pours orange with a white head, earthy pepper with slight citrus aroma. Balanced heat, zippy hops, the pepper is well showcased.

UPDATED: JUN 17, 2011 On tap at BP Old Grove; Light amber/golden color with a medium white head. Aroma is citrusy and light pine. Flavor starts lightly fruity sweet followed by grapefruity hops and sharp habanero heat. The heat almost takes over the beer, but is an interesting twist if you like hot peppers. Medium bodied and smooth with some long lingering habernaro heat. I would like to see a little more balance between the habanero heat and the citrus bitterness, but still I liked it.

On cask @ O’Brian’s: Poured a different color than I remember from the regular sculpin and appeared as a lighter golden blonde. Tiny formation of head which eventually fizzed out leaving the liquid naked. The aroma is not as easy for me to smell due to the food and atmosphere here at O’Brien’s but it does smell very similar to the original recipe. As for the drink, the taste is full of pine and citrus fashioned hops while a heavy spice flavor coats the back of my throat. The habanero is so apparent that lips begin to burn and even a bit of irritation in my stomach as if I ate a spicy dish of Thai or Indian curry. This has to be the strongest chili peppered beer I’ve come across.

A good hoppy california ipa. Tastes good, looks like an ipa should. Ballast point knows what they are doing.
