COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Sculpin IPA is a great example of what got us into brewing in the first place. After years of experimenting, we knew hopping an ale at five separate stages would produce something special. The result ended up being this gold-medal winning IPA, whose inspired use of hops creates hints of apricot, peach, mango and lemon flavors, but still packs a bit of a sting, just like a Sculpin fish.

Clear golden appearance with a bubbly white head that reduces rather quickly. Okay lacing. Definite pepper aroma. There is a tad of citrusy hops sneaking out of the aroma. Lively carbonation. Definitely puts a burn at the back of the throat. Taste of fresh peppers. The bottle says may vary in heat this one could have been a little spicier but an awesome beer. Ballast point took a chance on a spicy beer and suceeded with flying colors.

Bravo Ballast Point! This beer perfectly captures the essence of an habanero- floral and nose-piercingly sharp- while retaining the citrus notes of the Sculpin.

From a cask at The Bronx Ale House, while watching some playoff football. A really interesting variation on BPís flagship IPA. Lots of chili spice and hop resin makes for a lively, intense, eye-opening brew. This is being a little under-rated imho, maybe by people who arenít crazy about capsaicin in their beer.

Hunahpus day. Clear orange pour with a small head. Aroma was big time citrus and pine. No peppers on the nose. Flavors were big and hoppy up front with a biting pepper heat on the finish. It was hot but it came and went in quick fashion. Rather excellent.

My question: Just how much habanero is in this beer? The answer: enough to make a spicy food fan like myself happy to have some water nearby. The spice and the hops marry almost as good as peanut butter and jelly. But the nose: absolutely awesome. It truly smells of habanero pepper. Probably the spiciest beer I've had, but also a damn good and thoughtfully made IPA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Great as a taster because the habanero is stronger than the beer. Had on tap in a 4 oz glass and couldn't imagine drinking a full glass. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Smell of juicy fruit, appearance is gold with thin white head, taste is sweet earthy malt with a nice heat at the end.

Bottle. Pours clear amber with creamy white head. Aroma is bready and cereal malts, spice, floral notes, and some tropical fruit notes. Flavor is hop bitterness forward quickly overtaken by habanero spice with slight malt sweetness and faint citrus notes. Medium body and carbonation.

Peppery aromas. Mild heat which worked well with the hops giving tropical flavor. Glad it was only a 12oz.

12oz bottle. Looking at reviews, this is a polarizing beer. Iím a huge pepper/heat fan, so not surprisingly I fall on the positive side. The other side consists of wimps. If youíre a pansy who canít take the slightest bit of heat, just donít drink a habanero beer! The appearance is average, orangish-golden with a fast-fading one-finger head. The aroma has grapefruit and tropical fruit notes with a hint of habanero. The flavor has great heat! Iím glad they didnít hold anything back. It matches well with a slightly sweet malt base and bright fruity hoppiness. The palate is really nice. Medium-bodied and crisp with a burning sensation. This is freaking badass! I love it and would drink it all day. Wimps need not apply.
