Poured a dark reddish, caramel color with 2-to-3 fingers of tan head. Sporadic, spider web, foamy lacing along the sides of the glass. Good, thick retention all the way down. Almost porter-like.
Smelled a healthy dose of floral hops, amber malts, caramel, toffee, faint chocolate, dark fruit (plum?) and some earthy malts.
Tasted a bit stronger than the smell. Also earthier and maltier, and surprisingly bitter. Hops - floral, grass and rye, malts - caramel, toffee, faint coffee beans and toast.
Medium body. Creamy texture. Average-to-lively carbonation. Long, bitter finish. Can taste all of the 7.0 percent alcohol.
This beer just didn’t get better. Quite the opposite actually. By the end I was wanting to get it over with. Pretty good value for $4.49 though.

Tap at Tony’s Darts Away. Clear amber to red pour with good tan lacing. Nose is sweet cherry cordial, dark chocolate. Spicy pepper and tootsie roll with red cherry and dusty bitter cocoa in taste. Neither sweet or harshly bitter. Finishes with a big pepper bite. Long, hefty, nutty bitter back end. Approaching tea tannic. Has herbal tea character though that doesn’t distract thankfully. All around drinkable for a style that I rarely enjoy.
