Spicy, coconuty, but not that great. Being Indian should have given me some predisposition to like this beer better than I did....but that wasn’t the case.

Dark brown. Nose, taste, finish: all liquified curry. Medium mouthfeel. I love curry so I enjoyed a small pour but drinking an entire glass would be a chore.

I’ll give A for originality. C+/B- for the ultimate beer. This is a hot, spicy, cumin beer. It could be a stout, but you can’t tell. Due to the hot, spicy, and cumin nature. Did I mention it’s hot, spicy, and cumin-flavored? Because that’s what this beer is.

The cumin makes itself well known right away as you pour the beer into a glass. Aromas of softened cumin and coconut fill the air and invade the nose before I even grabbed the glass. The beer looks pretty brown as it falls into the glass, but settles to a pretty black color. It’s a really loud beer at first, and the light brown head fizzles away very quickly. Head retention: none. Healthy, fast-rising carbonation persists long after the pour, and if it wasn’t for the fact that its bubbles are small I’d take this for a dark cola. The coconutty cumin nose feels overpowering at first, but starts to make the beer seem more like a simple sweet stout after a while - something more along the lines of a coconut porter. A touch of chili powder rounds out the end of the nose, complimenting the slight roast malt character beautifully. The flavor is incredibly unique. It’s perfectly spiced, and the cayenne comes through quickly. The cayenne is especially present as the beer slides down the throat. In the mouth, the beer is wicked smooth, sweet, and spiced in such a way that it reminds me a little of a sweet tamarind cola. A thin sheet of soft, warm cayenne coats the tongue and roof of the mouth, and the tip and sides of the tongue actually start to feel like they were burned on the side of a skillet. I love it. Yes, it’s maybe just a little too thick on the palate for a hot summer day, but it’s invigorating enough that it doesn’t really matter.

Rating from two days ago up the river. Bomber. Aroma consists of the exotic spices mentioned in the description with coconut the strongest, followed by cumin, curry and cayenne; not getting the lime. It also has the expected stout roastiness and a wet river rock character. Pours dark brown to black with a medium tan head with good retention. Flavor is like biting into a scrumptious Indian dish with all aroma descriptors firmly in place. Starts sweet and earthy before turning bitter, lightly tart (Kaffir lime?) and finishing with a moderate burn from the cayenne and some bitterness. Mouthfeel is creamy, finely carbonated, medium to full body. I love a nice experimental brew and this one succeeds. Very tasty.

bottle shared by samg, thanks dude. pours very dark brown with a decent light beige head, some retention and lacing. intense aromatic cumin/caraway seeds, dry coffee, peppery cayenne and peppers, umami - rancid and rotten meat, almost cloying molasses, soil, dirt. moderate carbonation, medium body - oily and sticky, grassy-spicy and tingling cayenne finish. normally, i do not dislike cumin. disgusted.

Bottle 22oz. Pours dark brown with low beige head. Mahogany reflects. Aroma is of cumin, bugs, brown sugar, flowers, cherry bubblegum. Taste is of cumin, peppers (hot), some vanilla, slight bitterness. Palate: Light-medium body. Light carbonation. Overall: Not good at all. Fun to try, but really not an enjoyable brew for me.

Pours a dark brown with a small white head that leaves light lacing. Nose is of an Indian spice shop, hot curry and all. Taste is incredibly spicy and hot, good thing that there is a nice lime flavor to it or else it would just be completely undrinkable. This is burning and I’m having a hard time imagining myself stomach more than the small glass that I have in front of me. I didn’t think it was horrible but just too spicy in summary. Carbonation was moderate, body as well. This isn’t a stout but still a fun experiment.

Bottle (22 oz). Shared by Sam, thanks! Dark brown with a small beige head and little lacing. Aroma is a burst of cumin and not much else here. Taste is also agressively dominated by cumin, but there’s a subdued presence of coconut and lime in the finish. Medium body. Moderate carbonation. Spicy finish. It might be fun on paper to make a beer with similar ingredients than Indian food, but this one doesn’t pass the reality test (and I like Indian food). Gross and undrinkable.

Ballast Point Indra Kunindra is great but not for the faint if heart. Curry like aromas dominate from this dark pour with the tight tan head. Lots of Indian spice dominates the flavor with a spicy kick. Spicy flavors linger so be forewarned. Really good if you like that type of food. Indra Kunindra is definitely an original.

Tap at Young & Jackson’s. Probably one of the weirdest stouts I have ever had but i absolutely loved this. Smells exactly like a curry, all the right elements are there - coconut, lime, spice, coriander, meatiness, cumin. Crazy good. I drank a pint of this, so that means it must be tasty
