Tap. Pours a pitch black color with a tan head. Aroma is of roasted malt chocolate, curry, kafir lime and lots of spice. The flavor again is filled with curry notes, with the kafir lime, spice, some chocolate and roasted malt, dark fruits and some subtle coffee. The body is medium with a creamy mouth feel. Overall a really interesting and different brew, I like it!

11 aug 2002, tap at the brewery. Dark brown, almost black. Wow, nose is awesome! Curry and coconut. Thin body and faintly fizzy. Flavors flip back and forth between curry and toasted coconut. Some dark chocolate becomes prominent after you get over the unique flavored. Pretty fun. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On draft at city beer san francisco. Pours almost black with a thick tan head slowly receding leaving lots of lacing. Aroma of lime and coconut. Complex and interesting mix of chocolate, lime, coconut and spices giving way to a fiery finish.

On draft at The Pony Bar. A really interesting brew that tastes like an Indian snack - the most Indian tasting brew I have ever hard. Lots of hot pepper, cumin, nuts, and coriander, plus a dash of coconut.

22oz bottle. Rating #133. Dark brown, very dense, not much light shining through. Big spice notes throughout this beer, curry was a big part of it, but it didn’t take over the beer. Very tasty overall, everyone that tried was trying figure out where there was a good Indian restaurant close by. (2558)

Wow what a unique brew! It reminds me of Thai coconut soups. Nose is full of curry spice, some light coconut, and lime, behind a malty backbone. Pour is black with a light tan head. Flavor is full of curry, some light chocolate, lime, and pepper. Good stuff, very different.

Dark pour with ample head. Heavy spice that is long and strong in my throat. A sipper for sure.

Bottle. Pours opaque black with a small brown head that slowly dissipates with some lacing. Aroma is quite pleasant sweet chocolate, coconut, roasted malts, and a touch of chili pepper. Flavor is about the same, medium sweet and a bit of citric bitterness. Chili peppers come through in the finish where they add a bit of burn. Medium body, silky mouthfeel. Not sure I would want a whole bomber of this, but it is certainly interesting.

651mL from Bine&Vine. Pours deep, inky black with mahogany highlights. Quick tan head has nice formation but no retention or lace. Nose is very intense, at first it wasn’t even red Indian curry dish, it was literally crowded Indian bus full of body odor, but now I’m realizing a lot of the B.O. smell in India is actually curry derived if the curry addition was able to create this intense of a nose. Hard to score this nose on a stout body, but for the spice/herb/vegetable category, the curry nose is spot on. The taste is much more tolerable and easily enjoyable- coconut, semisweet chocolate, minimal lime, but a ton of cayenne pepper heat. Not for the faint of heart- this beer has very intense flavors and is certainly unique. I thoroughly enjoyed this. Yum. The only qualm is that under all the coconut and pepper you can still get some of the normal stout character and it is a tad ashy. Still, really good.

Damn what an interesting beer or at least a novel beer. I have wanted to try this for a while and I so wanted to share this with the beer geeks back in KS but checked baggage costs are so high. Either way, pours like a regular stout and good god all mighty the nose hits you like an Indian rock. Damnnnnnn, someone get me a mango lassi to go along with this beer. Its strong and I like Indian food but I do not loooooveeee Indian food, so its a bit of a conundrum. Flavor is better, more subdued, get some stout and strong but not hella (as the kids say) strong curry. Heat, the heat between me and this beer. its not the pepper ale type heat, its a small but constant heat that comes in waves and burns the top of your intestines, I love it. Cool beer. Bottle is filter clean after the last pour. This one is with you in mind Eric.
