A classic German-Style Beer, Brewed in San Diego. Our Longfin Lager has become one of the go-to beers with the team at the brewery. A solidly balanced Helles inspired Lager with a clean, slightly hoppy finish that could easily fit in at any German beer garden. We think it’s perfect for enjoying on the beach, the boat or anywhere else you can put an ice chest full of beer.

12oz can. Been waiting a while to try this one, very excited for it to finally arrive. Code on bottom reads 15160 11:05 LF 103. Pours a clear golden color, with a fizzing airy finger of white head, fades to a thin ring. No lace sticks. Nice bigger bready malt up front in the nose. Some pepperiness to the flavor. Bit of cornbread. A mild bite towards the finish. A decent bit of citrusy and peppery hop. Some interesting lager mustiness. Mild bit of butter. Moderate-plus sweet taste. Light to moderate bitter. Lighter to medium body. Kind of slick texture. Lighter, kind of crisp, slightly effervescent carbonation. Solid, interesting helles. Pleasant bit of hop that adds some bitterness but doesn’t distract. Was nicer to sip on it’s own than with my sub. Solid. But unnecessarily premium at $11/6pk. Was hoping for more, from Ballast Point.

Can: Strong hay and grain aroma. Crystal clear yellow, thick head, good lace. Grain, cane sugar. Paper finish. Light body, easy carbonation. Nice intensity for a lager, but too sweet.

BOD 140/15. Clear golden pour. World class head volume, outstanding lacing and retention. Typical lager nose - yeast, mild biscuit malt and a touch of grassy hops. Heavy light body with a smooth texture. Superbly carbonated with a bit of effervescence in the middle and a nice prickly finish. The outstanding flavor profile is intense, a bit complex and masterfully balanced. It begins with a blend of grassy and herbal hop flavor. The middle brings a very mild bitterness that is balanced by a subtle cracker biscuit sweetness. The finish is crisp and a herbal noble hop flavor lingers.

Expecting way more from ballast point. It was Ok, but nearly tasteless! I could feel it was a nice water the one they made this beer. But nothing of complexity, just a bit earthy sweet very little caramel, cereal taste. Even though its nice really cold for a summer day. But I think my situation was not the best, it was cold and I was eating a Hamburguer! Maybe in different situation. But this is still not a very interesting lager. Anyway, its better than industrial things. If theres no other choice, I would say go for it, but dont expect much.

Bottle pours light golden with white fluffy head retention. Palate: Lemony, chamomile flavor with soft bitterness. Overall, a let down for the style.

Can - clear gold, soapy lace - nose is medium sweet, with some grassy hops, sweet pear, white grape, moderate acidity - crisp and lightly bitter up front - notes of puffed rice, lightly sour malt character - kind of watery and lifeless in the mouth - slight mineral water finish - was hoping for a lot more.

12oz bottle in a tulip. Pours golden with a white head. Aroma of pale malts, some bread and toast, and some light bitterness. Flavor the same. Average texture. A standard lager.

UPDATED: JUN 14, 2015 Can. Clear pale gold with a medium-sized white head. Aroma impression is quiet cracker-like pale malt, rice, saccharine, honey, mineral water, mild pear. Light bodied, moderately sweet with medium-low bitterness. Pretty basic malt profile, lots of chewy sugars though not overly sweet, hops are just barely herbal, and the finish is quick and limp.

UPDATED: JUN 19, 2015 Can. Head is initially small, frothy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is light yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), lightly to moderately hoppy (honeysuckle flowers), with a hint of spearmint. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately bitter. Light to medium body, watery/velvety texture, lively carbonation. It sure doesn’t look like much, but it’s a wonderfully to-style beer that I could almost believe was made in Deutschland (the malt character doesn’t scream Germany, but it’s nice)...absolutely no resin or grapefruit hop nonsense to ruin the aroma, just lovely soft floral hops like in the homeland. Clean and very well-balanced...crisp without being full-on pilsner bitter. Have had this many times now and it’s quite solid.

Draft at Harding Tavern in Chicago. Pale yellow with small quickly diminishing head. Grainy cereal aroma. Lightly sweet, grainy, clean, really simple. There are much better examples of the style.
