Ballast Point’s Brewing and Spirits Navigator Doppelbock is inspired by the strong German dark lagers and bock’s. Briess Extra Special malt helps create the source of the flavors that dominate the aroma and taste buds in Navigator. You are able to enjoy forward flavors of caramelized malt sugars and dried fruits, such as raisins, apricots and prunes. This strong lager is a big malt-driven beer that truly deserves the nickname “liquid bread.”

Draft at sb. Pours a slightly hazy dark amber with bright rubied edges and a dense creamy light tan head. Mild sweet caramel and brown bread crust nose. Creamy medium body with soft carb. Caramel and toast mid palate. Very clean and not cloying at all.

Tap. Red brown body with a filmy grey head. Malty aroma of roast acorns, sugar, and malted milk. Booze evident in the first sip to the last. Straw honey caramel flavor. Very nice and just what I wanted with my cheese plate.

Draught. This is a nice big sweet and punchy doppel. It is well worth grabbing a pour.

>> Navigator Doppelbock. Clear deep amber pour. Okay foam. Brown alcohol nose, chocolate orange, bready dark crust, brown sugar, oatmeal. Intense brown sugar. Taste is fairly boozy, German malty with red twizzlers and dark bread. Slight brown alcohol warming. Fumey brown alcohol in the nose. Body feels quite slick and oily. Overall quite nice.

UPDATED: APR 2, 2015 "Pretty full bodied and full flavored. Kind of lacking in depth, but what it lacks there it makes up for in tasty goodness. Simple, straightforward, sweet, fruity, bready and pretty nice!"

GABF 2013. Pours a deep brown appearance with a tan head. Caramel, lightly roasted malty, chocolate, a bit dark fruity aroma. Light plum, toffee, dark fruity, light grape, caramel flavor that finishes a touch dry. Pretty smooth for the abv and not a bad overall beer but nothing too special.
