COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ballast Point’s Brewing and Spirits Navigator Doppelbock is inspired by the strong German dark lagers and bock’s. Briess Extra Special malt helps create the source of the flavors that dominate the aroma and taste buds in Navigator. You are able to enjoy forward flavors of caramelized malt sugars and dried fruits, such as raisins, apricots and prunes. This strong lager is a big malt-driven beer that truly deserves the nickname “liquid bread.”

On tap at Thirsty Moose Taphouse. Ruby brown put with finger of off white foam. Very pretty. Aroma is of caramel, Malt, and booze. Flavor is similar, more alcohol comes through than expected. Finish is slightly astringent, a little disappointing.

appearance: clear medium-dark brown, no head, no lacing; looks pretty flat. aroma: raisin, toffee, caramel and graham cracker. taste: sweet caramel, toffee, and raisin, light toasted malts. finish: a bit of dark toast and just a hint of booze. notes: Feels almost like a scotch ale. Big and sweet, but the body wasn’t too heavy. Draft at Quench in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Tap sample. Poured a dark ruby brown color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with very good lacing. Moderate roasted sweet malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium roasted sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. This is a solid beer.

On tap at Dutch’s. Clear red color. Bubbly, kind of foaming khaki head. Fades quickly to a thin ring and film on the surface. Some pleasant dark fruit up front, some nuttiness, mild caramel. Great touch of earthy hop. Moderate-plus bitter taste, light to moderate sweet. Has a great, more dry finish. This is a great doppelbock. Smooth, easy-drinking. Not too sweet, satisfying bit of bitterness.

Draft to taster at Dutch’s. Pours a clear amber color with a small, disappearing off white head. The aroma and flavor have sweet malts, caramel, dark fruit, a light earthy character, this is mainly caramel and fruit, decent, just not much depth.
