On tap @ Ballast Point: Dark brown, thick pour. Aroma of caramel, brown sugar and some smoke. Flavor is smooth and very quaffable. Sweet, but with some nice smoke in the background. Reminded me of a scotch ale in many ways. Very good.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at the brewery in Linda Vista. Tried this side by side with the Brandy BA version. I had this one first and was a little disapointed that the hop flavor was too strong. I thought that these were typically more malty, sweet and alcohol. This was on the hop side of the balance. Still very tasty, but not in style in my opinion.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Another one I sampled at the Strong Ale Festival. The aroma was a bit of a mystery to me here...i could smell a huge yeasty, hoppy content, but then again i got a good helping of coffee and mocha aroma’s. The colour poured a good deep brown with a thick, creamy head that lingered nicely. The taste is a bit generic i must admit for a dopplebock, but i definitely could feel the hops, some coffee/mocha mix, and some definite roastiness. Like i said, this one was a bit of a mystery but i like what they did with it.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Clear body and light brown in color. Thick, creamy white head. Malt dominate with lots of caramel sweetness. Flavor is also quite sweet. Decent dopplebock.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Deep red hue with sustaining off-white head, nose is melanoidins and dark fruit. Flavor is the same with hefty grainy-bread malts and warming alcohol in the finish. Clean and crisp doppelbock, very enjoyable and refreshing!

2.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft at Stone World. Cherry color, translucent, big head bubbles down. Aroma is cough drops & alcohol, weird. I taste over-ripened bananas, and dark fruits on the nose, and alcoholic bitterness at the end. Heavy body, the taste has too much alcohol. I like the style, but I’d skip this attempt at a doppelbock. Not the worst one I’ve had, but I don’t think I’d order it again.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a medium brown with a thin khaki foam. Aroma is dark fruit, figs, and sugar. Very flat carbonation ans a thin medium body lead to under-appreciation of the flavor. Strong caramel and fusel alcohols embody the tongue. Dried fruit and burnt sugars lead to a relatively dry finish.
