COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Awesome to see that Ballast Point’s Sculpin is starting to get the attention it deserves. A well balanced IPA combining some light fruit notes with well-rounded hop base.

Aroma of tropical fruits and melon. Piney and a bitter bomb at first. Hop bitters mellow as you go on. I prefer Terrapin high 5 or Two Heart esp at 12-13 bucks a sixer.

small can into an spig IPA glass. Pours clear golden sunset with a creamy white head. Nice aroma of orange, mandarin, apricot fruits. Very bitter and resinous in the flavour with the apricot flavour dominating, slight sweet caramel maltyness.

Very nice IPA. Lots of fruit on the nose grapefruit and pine. Orange pour white head. Lots of hops in a floral body with grapefruit citrus and mango like sweetness. Moderate body and carbonation.

Pours a clear orangey color, topped with very generous slightly cream colored head with very decent retention. There is a pleasant citrusy hops aroma, slight fruity notes and some spices. The body has a creamy feel. Decent bitterness in the taste, some spices. Quite some bitterness left in the aftertaste. A nice one.

Flaske og siden fad: Orange let diset øl med flot skumhoved. Duften er citrus og let mango. Smagen er ikke bitter men har masser af tropisk frugt. Virkelig en fornøjelse.

Lighter in colour than the Big Eye IPA, Ballast Point Brewing is my favorite of San Diego beers. Dare I say less arrogant and more balanced makes Sculpin top notch beer.

A West Coast IPA that has a bite and a hop heavy, piny, citrus profile. Recently becoming more easy to find in the Chicago market. Perfect option for a canned IPA.

355mL bottle BB 14121...maybe? Looks a treat in my "IPA glass"; pale gold with a tight white creamy, leaving level layers of lace on its descent. Nose packs a punch; plenty o that typically biscuity, light caramel American pale malt goodness upfront with a stack of citrus rind, stone fruit, pineapple, pine needle, cedar and passionfruit hop character. Chewy texture, good weight on the palate yet without alluding to its abv, carbonation is soft and creamy. Palate hits hard with plenty of resiny hops, bitter citrus, green stonefruits and woody spice. Not to be outdone, there’s plenty of golden syrup & cracker biscuit-esque malt to provide a decent balance. Bitterness is also very well balanced - firm without being astringent or aggressive - lingering long on the finish. Alcohol extremely well masked! Tremendously well balanced and enjoyable. This is an American IPA made the right way!

Poured from an imported bottle. Pours a little lighter in colour than the Big Eye IPA. Tropical hops aroma and grapefruit hop taste. A great hoppy IPA.
