A dry stout with fresh brewed Cafe Calabria coffee. The flaked barley and oats serve to round out the body a little without the malty sweetness. Calabria is an independant coffee importer and roaster located on 30th st. in the North Park area of San Diego.

Spoiled this was on a nitro tap. Beautiful brown with a solid chocolate milk brown head, solid other then two tiny bubbles. Nice smells of chocolate and nut. First sip is all cream roasted bitter coffee with a cream head undertone.

On nitro at Tap 25. It pours a deep brown with red highlights. Light tan colored thick head. The aroma is nicely roasted with some coffee and hints of chocolate. The flavor is cocoa, coffee and roasted malt. Dirty, roasted finish that borderlines on ashy. I expected more of a coffee flavor, but it was still pretty decent.

10oz on tap at Neon’s. Pours black in color. Light brown head. Just a bit of it, but it’s a nice color. Decent splotches of lace. Kind of loose. Medium body. Smooth, kind of velvety, creamy texture. Lightly chewy. Light carbonation. Nice milk chocolate, oats, moderate sweet taste. Very light bitterness. Good oatmeal stout. Nothing crazy about it, but it’s a well-done, smooth example of the style.

Draft. Poured dark brown color with medium brown fizzy head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Medium roasted coffee aroma. Medium to full body with a dry smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium roasted sweet coffee flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met.

Draft at The Beer Authority in Seattle. Smooth brown with tall white head. Nice solid, sweet, medium body stout. Rich for its weight. Another great Ballast Point beer.

Draft at Would of Beer. Pours dark brown with a fizzy tan head. Taste is smooth and creamy, light chocolate, light coffee, bready and slightly sweet. Medium body and low carbonation. Smells like bitter coffee, sweet syrup, and semisweet cocoa.

Tap at WOB. Pours deep, dark brown with creamy beige head. Aroma is roasted malts, chocolate, oats, light vanilla, fig, and light woody notes. Flavor is rich roast and chocolate malts, oat creaminess, coffee, earthy notes, and faint dark fruit esters; smooth and creamy throughout with a dry, chocolate finish. Medium body and carbonation.

I had this at Ballast Point in Little Italy. The beer is dark brown, nearing black, with a thin beige collar. Aromas of chocolate, dark malt, grains, bread. Some dark fruit and raisin notes in the flavor. Really smooth on the palate due to the serving medium. Well balanced and easy to drink. Good stuff.

I do enjoy a fine dry stout and this one’s a class act. Perfect in terms of appearance: pitch black with deep ruby red highlights, and a super thick cappuccino-like head. Nutty, sweet, burnt toast aroma. Flavors were similar, lots of nutty sweet malts and burnt toast, along with a slight smokiness. I wanted a bit more punch from the flavor department. Mouthfeel was light and easy, don’t want to quite say ’thin’. Had this one on nitro at the brewery (5%abv).

Draft at Winberie’s. Dark chocolate appearance with minimal head. Thick, chewy oatmeal/chocolate/raisin mouthfeel. Creamy and smooth. Delicious.
