On tap at the brewer’s night at the Daily Pint. Matt at Ballast Point let me know to be sure to try this one because it was the barrel aged version. Boy, was he right! Pours a clear bronze-brown with a creamy tan head. Aroma of wood, whiskey, spice, bourbon, dates and vanilla. Taste is brown sugar, dates, raisins, wood, whiskey spice and cinnamon. Tannic and dry mouthfeel with medium carbonation. A very nice and sessionable barrel aged beer!
3.1 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 JorisPPattyn (7310) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - MAY 8, 2012
Draught Medium to good yellow head over chestnut-coloured beer. Horrible chlorine-halogen nose - not from the beer but from the glass-washing - at the brewery, if you please! Whiff of Bourbon, finally. Sweet Bourbon-vanilla, wood, milk-chocolate, coloured malts and fruity, berry-like finish. Quite slick, medium to rather well-bodied, tad of alcohol. Shame about the nose ( brewery explains new washing dispenser, not fine-tuned at the moment of visiting - noted.)
2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 womencantsail (6902) - Garbage Grove, California, USA - APR 21, 2011
A: The pour is a dark amber color with about a finger of off-white/tan head.
S: A nice bourbon and vanilla aroma with a fair amount of oak. There is definitely some booziness and as it warms up, there is an increasingly noticeable acetone smell. Blah.
T: Strangely fruity, and a bit overcarbonated. Vanilla, oak, and a touch of bourbon. The same harshness and paint thinner thing is going on here.
M: Medium in body with a rather high level of carbonation.
O: I haven’t had very good luck with Ballast Point’s barrel aged beers. Add this one to that list.
3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 GT2 (5661) - Riverslime, California, USA - JUL 9, 2010
Tap at the brewery. Poured a clear, deep amber with a baby head. No lace. Excellent vanilla, coconut, buttery bourbon nose. Taste is rich, creamy, buttery, slightly full of caramel, toffee. Bubbly, thin palate. Reminds more of Calico Amber than a Scottish ale.
4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 badlizard (5160) - Berkeley, California, USA - NOV 28, 2008

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Skyview (5023) - Papoose Jct, Minnesota, USA - SEP 6, 2010
Sampled from 22 -oz bomber and shared by DalzAle. Pours a clear dark copper colored brew with a fast dissolving off-white head. Aroma of bourbon/coconut profile with additional scent of chocolate, caramel and a touch of vanilla. Taste is medium bodied, flavors of sweet caramel malt, some vanilla and just barely a little bourbon. Finish is malty with just a hint of bourbon with some vanilla aftertaste that quickly disappears.
