Seahandler (11), San Diego, California, USA Jul 8, 2007 On tap at Hamilton’s. Classic 80 Schilling / Export Scottish Ale. Clean aroma with no ale yeast esters (low fermentation temp?). Roasty, caramel aroma with small bubbles. I thought that the color was a little dark. When held to a light the candy cane red comes through (long boil?). Brilliant clarity. Balanced flavor. Low bitterness but a dryness from a roasted grain. No peat flavors though. Malty aftertaste lingers. A great session ale. FoolishMortal (949), San Diego, California, USA Oct 21, 2007 Tap at the 11th anniversary. Deep golden-orange brown with a small tan head. Sweet tangy malt aromatics, some chocolate. Alefruit, toasty/nutty malt flavors up front. Rich rasiny, chocolate characters then manifest. Spicy, eartthen hop component in the finish with residual bittersweet chocolate and a hint of smokiness. Mouthfeel is a heavy medium, somewhat chewy. badlizard (1568), San Diego, California, USA Jun 21, 2007 On tap at Ballast Point. Clear reddish brown with a creamy off-white head. Roasty caramel aroma.
