COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Grapefruit Sculpin is the latest take on our signature IPA. Some may say there are few ways to improve Sculpin’s unique flavor, but the tart freshness of grapefruit perfectly complements our IPA’s citrusy hop character. Grapefruit’s a winter fruit, but this easy-drinking ale tastes like summer.

Looks like a typical ipa. This beer takes a citrus ipa to a whole new level. It is not overly fruity at all. This beer takes the citrus notes from the hops and magically mixes them perfectly with the citrus of grapefruit. It is one of the best beers I have ever had. Don't pass this one up if you have never had it!

4/22/2015 (draught at Marty’s Hops & Vines in Cincinnati, Ohio) and May 2005 (bottles): Sculpin is a fantastic beer and the Grapefruit Sculpin is the icing on the cake. Ruby red grapefruit zest in the aroma. Pours a shiny orange color. Flavor is citrus, a touch of pine, and a bunch of zesty grapefruit. Crisp and clean. Adequately bitter without being over the top. Medium-bodied and oh so smooth. This is another amazing beer from Ballast Point. I love it and can’t get enough of it. I just wish it we’re $15+tax a 6-pack. This is a FANTASTIC IPA!

At this $13/sixer price point - this is the best in my book for a summer beer. grapefruit is the perfect pairing here.

Flaska@BA Vasagatan.

Can into snifter glass, clear copper-amber color with off-white head. Aroma notes of grapefruit, citrus/pine hops and malt sweetness. Taste adds more typical sculpin notes; tropical fruitiness (mango, pineapple), resin and some grass. Medium body, moderate carbonation, sticky, dry with lingering citrus/pine finish. Grapefruit seems to enhance this IPA, excellent.

From a can. I grabbed this from the beer store in Grand Central Terminal for my train ride home. I was real excited to get this beer, since it has been rated so high. I was expecting a slight amount of grapefruit essence to accentuate the hops, but all I taste is sour grapefruit. Not pleasant at all, in fact it was gross. I wanted a beer, not a glass of grapefruit juice. This is one for the wine cooler crowd, not me.

On tap at Mackeys Hideout. Grapefruit aroma dominates here. Nice citrusy flavor. Very easy drinking beer. Very smooth finish. I really enjoyed this.

Can. Also had from a bottle a couple months back. Was much better from a fresh can. Nose is grapefruit, piney hops. Taste is grapefruit, other citrus, piney, a touch of sweetness and a dry bitter finish.

Wow, grapefruit. But not the pithy kind. Bitterness is very present but the right amount to hold up to the abundance of hop flavor and malt bill. I can’t stop smelling the aroma. Good stuff.
