changeup45 (782), Orlando, Florida, USA Jun 8, 2009 Bottle from Turdferguson. Pours an orange color with a thick frothy off-white head. Heavy lacing. Citrusy hoppy aroma escapes as soon as the bottle is cracked with a lot of grapefruit and a lesser pine scent. Citrusy, grapefruit, orange, lemon, this pretty much tastes like you think it should after smelling it although perhaps not quite as sharp as the aroma indicates. Probably because it’s so easy to drink and refreshing without huge bitterness. A very good IPA. Thanks Sam! Brigadier (1220), Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA Jun 8, 2009 22 oz bottle
I only let this sit for a week before I could resist the urge to open it. West Coast IPAs seem to lose something even when chilled and I wanted the best experience possible. I don’t know how much this costs in California but if it were regularly accessible I may just buy it on a semi-regular basis.
Aroma / Appearance - The transparent golden body and stark white head formed a picturesque decoration on the coffee table. Bright and grassy, the nose was fruity with the main aspect being canned mandarin oranges.
Flavor / Palate - The hoppy bite grabs you from the first sip and is consistent throughout. A mixture of grass, pine needles, flower petals, and citrus it sits nicely on the tongue. Despite being 7% ABV this was not tough to polish off as spring transitioned to summer. TampaBrew (746), Tampa, Florida, USA Jun 7, 2009 pours a deep yellow. very citrus nose with some pine and floral hops mixed in. Flavor is much of the same. A bit biting at points, but the malt flavors even things out. Finished dry with some fruit tones. Very good beer. kiefdog (1567), Tampa, Florida, USA Jun 7, 2009 Bottle courtesy of tpd975. Pours a golden yellow color with thin white head. Aroma is sweet and floral with notes of apricots, citrus, caramel, honey, grapefruit, pine. Flavor is sweet and floral with notes of citrus, sweet caramel, apricots, fresh fruit, some hints of honey and pine. Generally medium body with a pleasing hoppy finish. Beerman6686 (1266), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 5, 2009 This poured a cloudy light orange color with a pretty big white head. Aroma was just freaking awesome, lots of citrus hops, some piney notes as well. Just fresh hops. Flavor was much the same, very pungant fruity hops, some peach notes, pine at the end, and then a rather dry distinguished finish. I wish I had more of this stuff! CharlesDarwin (1823), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA Jun 5, 2009 22oz Bottle. Noses with a lemony Simcoe heavy aroma. Catty. Pours a very clear pale yellow, with a foamy whitish. Flavor is sticky, fruity, juicy and fresh. A fresh, piney snap of fresh foam filling out the balance. This is classic and juicy. Dry finish. A prototypical West Coast sticky IPA. sebletitje (1880), Tampa, Florida, USA Jun 3, 2009 Updated: Jul 24, 2009courtesy of tpd975.
pours golden, white head.
Aroma and taste, hoppy, citrus with notes of pineapple, some floral hops.
Not my fav IPA style, too much hops bitterness up front, still highly drinkable.
re-rate, lots of hops, grapefruits, with nice malt balance but still with hops giving the beer a nice warmingpalate. markwise (1132), 15 Minutes from Kuhnhenn in, Florida, USA Jun 3, 2009 Thanks IBrew2or3 for the share. Pours clear yellow with a white head. Nose is grapefruit, orange, some pine, and a big caramel backbone full of malt. Flavor is similar with lots of caramel and grapefruit, and some pine. Flavor finishes off with lingering hop bite. Interesting.
