Commercial Description:
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Orange colored with little white head. Rich aroma, WOA. Flowers, apricot, peach, pine, excellent hoppy note. Medium bodied. Flavor is more bitterly hopped with still flowers dominating in start, same apricot here too. Aftertaste lasts with this piney palate. Well, what can you say, definitely US brew, which we never get too much here in North Europe.

22oz. thanks to Dunk. I think I actually drank this one right out of the bottle. Flavor was citrus, piney, and sweet malt. Nice body and easily one of the best drinking IPA’s out there.

Thanks to SWolf3 for this one! Pours with a clear gold body under a tall, long-lasting white head. This has a marvelous grapefruit and pine aroma. The malts are there too. Sweet grapefruit that quickly moves into a smooth hop bitterness that lasts into the long finish. Great IPA!

Thanks to Shane (I think)! Pours a crystal clear gold/orange with spacious head. Citrus hop aroma is heavenly. Taste is wonderful hops with thin malt backing. Absolutely screams hop flavor without being overly bitter. Could possibly use a bit more malt presence, but I shouldn’t press my luck. This is up there w/ the best of the best for me.

APPEARANCE: Pours a clear gold color with a medium white head that dissipates at an average rate. Very long lasting lacing. SMELL: Sweet citrus (grapefruit) and pine. Hint of apricot. TASTE: Caramel with pine and citrus. Finish is hoppy but not overpowering. MOUTHFEEL: Medium to full bodied beer with a sticky texture. Fizzy carbonation. DRINKABILITY: This is a great tasting beer. Nice balance of sweet and bitter.

Excellent IPA. Pours a golden amber with sticky off-white head. Clean and floral with herbal notes. Grapefruit, pine, and some bready malt and caramel to balance it out. Really well done and easy to drink.

22 oz. bottle. Pours a slightly hazy dark golden color with a smaller off white head. The aroma is fresh, clean citrus, pine, floral, and herbal with enough malt to add depth. The flavor has a base of bread with maple syrup surrounded by a bounty of citrus, pine, grapefruit, and herbal hops. There is a nice balance to this. The bitterness lasts for some time. Very drinkable, medium bodied.

1/7/09 notes: bomber, shared with Derek. Pours yellow-orange with a medium white head. Aroma features prominent notes of apricot, tart grapefruit, lime. Flavor is bold, emphasizing herbs and tangy citrus (especially grapefruit). Palate stays buttery throughout, with a smooth finish. Reminiscent of eating delicate lotus flowers. This is an amazing IPA.
