Commercial Description:
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Light gold colour. Massive aroma - explosive orange and melon. Superbright. Bitter body, so much it’s sweet with lots of melon, fresh fruits. Not the most balanced but what a great aroma.

Clear orange color with a big white head. Knock-out nose of fresh hops...pine and hibiscus. Flavor is awesome with hops, honey and tasty malts. Easy to drink and very approachable. Loved it.

Bottle via trade with mikesgroove. Pours amber orange with 2 finger creamy white head. pine, honey, peach, apricot, and flro hops. Starts witha slight malty backbone and quickly becomes floral honey hopped drying your mouth with hop bitterness. A really good ipa, but i wouldn’t trade for another.

bottle shared thanks to zinister. Pours a clear orange with a thin white head. Nose was of floral and citrus hops. Oranges. The taste was of orange and lemon citrus with hops just blowing you away! Mouthfeel was very hoppy up front. Super harsh and super bitter. Wow!

Strong citrus bitter hop nose. Gold amber, with a small head and great lacing. A little syrupy. Tart acidity undertones. Citrus hops dominate the palate, lemon, grapefruit. Bitter hop carbonation, and slight lingering bitterness aftertaste.

Thanks for sharing a bottle, iowaherkeye. The body was opaque medium gold with a white head. The aroma was strogn grapefruit with some toast. There was also some almonds and caramel. The taste was some mild grapefruit and bread crust. After the initial in your face hops aroma, I was expecting a stronger flavor. This was mild and fairly well balanced.

I can see what the fuss is about! This is a wonderfully fresh, fruity and incredibly well-done bitter beer. Lots of lemon and grapefruit, but also just a huge sticky tropical thing -- thankfully. though, this beer is not sweet, not at all. It is hugely aromatic; incredibly bright grassy, herbal and fruity aromas just leap out of the glass. Great color and heft, leaves you salivating after a long bitter, drying-out finish full of lemon and tangy breadiness. Just fantastic. From stefanje - thanks a million!
