Commercial Description:
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Here is yet another big IPA that I’ve been waiting (semi-patientingly) to sample. I finally got my chance at the Craft Ale House, and it did not disappoint. The unique trait I found with this beer was the oddly light body. I was not expecting this beer to go down so similarly like iced tea or Kool-Aid. The body was amazingly light, and was completely unexpected. That characteristic makes this IPA a little more dangerous than others. I think I could sit at the bar or at home and drink one of these right after another. And that could lead to some qusi-undesired results. The beer pours a light golden color. It sports a white head that laces around the glass the entire way down to the bottom. The nose has that West Coast IPA feeling, with lots of hops, grapefruit, pine and hop resin. The flavors are well-balanced and extremely delicious, with a ton of crisp and floral hops and notes of grass, grapefruit, lemon zest, earth, light bread and a good balance of light malt. The finish really stings the palate, with crisp hop character. This is one outstanding IPA. I wish this was more widely available here in southeastern PA. I could really use some more of it!

Pours a light orange color with a thick white head. Aromas are amazing citrus floral hops are overwhelming. The taste is exactly the same, citrus, orange rind, grapefruit, bitter hops, but not over bitter just about perfect. Wonderful brew.

Thanks to Kaiser81 for trading this one to me. Pours yellow-orange with a small white head. The beer is very clear. The aroma is strong citrus hops, lots of peach and mango. Very nice smelling beer. There is good bitterness and hop flavor, with lots of pine and citrus. The pine is mainly evident in the aftertaste. Medium mouthfeel and very drinkable. Outstanding beer.

Bottle. Pours a bright coppery orange color with a small foamy white head. Nose is dark, piney hops with a carmally malt note. Palate is very slick and syrupy with a fizzy note. Flavors of piney and grassy hops with a stinging bitter presence. very fun.

Golden/amber with a frothy white head. Resiny floral aroma. Excellent IPA flavor. Great sweet/bitter balance. Malts are in the backseat with the hops driving, but the malt keeps the hops in check without being an anooying backseat driver. Quite like this one.

The aroma is delicious - crisp pale and hoppy. The beautiful pale yellow color is almost lemony in appearance. The flavor of sweet and bitter hops first comes at you first real hard like a train, but then settles so smooth and delicious on the palate which is my interpretation of its deserved high rating.

It’s already been said but this is a great IPA. Really bright citrus taste with a little metallic hops residue on the finish. Crisp with not a lot of malt. Good stuff.

Pours a somewhat clear orange with a frothy white head. Huge pine and floral aroma with potent notes of grapefruit/citrus. Very bitter, than sweet than bitter again. Citrus and spruce are noticeable in the flavor, maybe even a little resin.
