Commercial Description:
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

At BPB. Golden yellow with creamy white goey lace. Almost the cat piss aroma that indicates excellent nose. Light citrus flavor of hops that he malt compliments well. Very good bitter finish that doesn’t kill you. Solid bodied full and rich palate with just a hint of foaminess. A very good IPA. Fine.

Excellent IPA. Pours a golden amber with sticky off-white head. Clean and floral with herbal notes. Grapefruit, pine, and some bready malt and caramel to balance it out. Really well done and easy to drink.

22oz from South Bay. Wow, this is yet another killer IPA from San Diego. Is there any doubt remaining that this area owns this style? I love the pale orange pour, slightly cloudy, with a big foamberg of a head. Big aroma of juicy hops, heavy on the tropical fruit for sure. I was skeptical reading about notes of mango, but nope, they’re in there. Not as sticky and resinous as the Dorado, but as rich and satisfying in its way - more quaffable, the fruit and hops practically sing. If there’s a breakfast stout, can we call this a breakfast IPA?

Trade via Stefanje. Thanks! A deliciously bitter IPA. I’ve had their IIPA and this may be better. Aroma of all hops and not much else. Pour was a medium to light gold with a thin white ring for a head. Taste was just how I like IPAs. All hops with just a hint of malt. Nice carbonation to carry the bitterness to the back of the mouth and bite the throat. Very nice.

I have had this many times this year and again last night. Aromas of pine, citrus, apricots and hops. Flavors of the same including a little pepper and spice. Very nice for a IPA and I look forward to future releases.

Pours a somewhat clear orange with a frothy white head. Huge pine and floral aroma with potent notes of grapefruit/citrus. Very bitter, than sweet than bitter again. Citrus and spruce are noticeable in the flavor, maybe even a little resin.

Thanks to snojerk321 for the bottle!
Peach-orange color, large fluffy yellowish-white head gone quickly. Nose is quite bitter but contains a lot of fruit sweetness, great stuff in orange, citrus, and cantaloupe. Flavor is downright bitter, just really hardcore stuff There’s a little sweet malt to ease it off and some hints of peach and orange, but the bitterness is direct and bold, through the long finish. Well carbonated and zesty, also a little salty. Very nice IPA, would session with pleasure.
