COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Great IPA! Aroma is floral and citrusy hops. appearance is golden orange which is lightly colored for an IPA. Great taste of complex hops flavor but the floral really stands out in the bottle, where as on tap way more fruit forward. Finished off with light malt and hop bitterness. Love this IPA!

Dark golden color with large, bubbly, bleach white head. There is a ton of lacing on each sip. The aroma is full of resiny hops with all the complexities of a big blend (grapefruit and pine). The flavors are mildly sweet with lots of bitterness and spciiness from the hops. There isn’t any one character of the beer that really makes it pop, but the balance of the very strong flavors makes it extremely enjoyable.

Appearance: clear golden orange color, frothy white head. Aroma: very tropical fruity, orange maybe a little grapefruit. Taste: floral up front leading into medium sweet fresh citrus, finishing with mild hop bitterness. Mouthfeel: thin to medium creamy body. Overall: one of the most citrusy fruity hopped beers I've had. Very pleasurable. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a hazy gold with nice big white head. Aroma is awesome with some fruit, caramel and pine notes. Taste is very hoppy yet a bit sweet with some grapefruit and pine as well. Palate is nice and has decent carbonation. Overall, i really enjoy this IPA, it is a bit on the citrusy side and is really bright with a long finish.

Big tropical and deep citrus on the nose. The taste is... wow.... Pineapple, tangerine - a nice lingering bitter mandarin orange. Great carb + mouthfeel. One of my favorites of all time. Great now it is in a 12oz. Must be fresh, fresh, this beer falls off a cliff.

One of the perfect examples of an IPA. Aroma, taste, color, and palate all shine in unison. Grapefuits, lemons, hops, and crystal malt come through and leave you wanting more. My review: http://beerhatesme.blogspot.com/2012/03/ballast-po

From notes. First reviewed 11/25/2010. Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into a tulip. Sculpin pours a slightly hazy golden color, with a huge foamy white head. Nice retention, stays with the beer the whole way, along with some sticky lace. Great floral hoppy smell, some cooling pine, and a splash of juicy citurs as well. The taste starts with a candy sweet bready malt, quickly taken over by the robust hop bill. Floral, pine, and apricot and mango citrus. The pine almost turns into a cool mint flavor. Finishes slightly bitter. The simcoe hops help to provide a cooling sensation on the tongue, with the dry hopping providing a tingling sensation on the tongue. Good, crisp, slightly creamy carbonation with a slightly above medium body. Finishes pretty clean. This is a great IPA, in pretty much every category. Hopefully these bottles will be regularly available in Chicago soon.

Bottled. Pours a medium gold, white head. Very hoppy, floral, spicy aroma, spruce, grapefruit peel, passion fruit, malt, pine resin. Dry, medium to full bodiy, high bitterness, balanced CO2. Very hoppy taste, spruce, apricots, mango, caramel, malt, grapefruit. Well balanced, delicate, yet still packed with flavour. (2012-02-15)

Pours golden. Aroma is citrus hops. Taste is citrus hops and good amount of bitterness. Palate is a bit fizzy, but smooth finish that leaves bitterness on the tongue. Easy drinking IPA that would be great on a hot day.
