COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Pours a clear, dark golden with a finger of white head. Lots of grapefruit aroma. Tastes of apricot, pine, mango. Quite bitter... more than other west coast IPA. Alcohol is well hidden. I wish I knew the bottled on date of what I’ve got. It feels like its a bit more tame than others have said.

Bottle. Pours a clear golden with a white head. Smells of grapefruit and orange peel. Tastes of a light bitter with a medium sweetness, well balanced but not perfectly. Light bodied. Light carbonation. Texture is syrupy. Finishes dry. Tasty.

A lovely big hoppy IPA from Ballast Point. Ticks all the boxes and is very palatable.

22-oz bottle at On Tap w Andy, James, Streets. Really light-looking pour with nice white head. Aroma is fresh as hell with citrus notes. Palate is a deep, earthy base with incredible balance and a fruity hop profile (grapefruit, orange peel). Great stuff.

It’s all been said before. A delicious brew. Aroma isn’t the thing with this great concoction, It’s everything. The smell the look and especially the taste. Incredibly satisfying. Each taste leading you on toward the next and in each a new surprise. almost perfect.

Bottle from the beer store. Pours golden with minimal head. Aroma of grapefruit/hops, and taste of citrus/hops. A nice IPA that has some good depth.

Poured from a draft into a plastic up at Gaglione Brothers in San Diego, Calif. Color was golden orange. Minimal head when I got it, maybe ˝ inches. Decent amount of lacing on the top. Healthy amount of film on the sides. Smelled of citrus hops, mainly lemon zest and grapefruit. Some pine in there, too. First tasted was a bitter, strong alcohol bite. Grapefruit dominated the taste after. Still very bitter on the finish. Medium body. Lively (moderate) carbonation, maybe even a bit higher. Bitter finish. Not a bad beer, but nothing really “wowed” me. I had to give it a try considering how rare it is to fine.

22oz bottle courtesy of wavers1. Pours hazy orange with a thin white head that sticks around leaving thick lacing. Aroma is juicy, citrusy hops. A little breadiness in the background. Body is full, but crisp. Flavor is not very bitter, but very hoppy. Again, citrusy, juicy hops without being resiny. A little crisp maltiness in the finish. Incredible IPA!

Great beer. Aroma is strong in hops, fruit, and sweetness. The appearance is a clear light orange. Taste is complex with hops, fruit, bitter, then a bit of a sweet finish.
