San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Pours a golden amber color with a medium head the leaves decent lacing. Aromas of hops and citrus with more hops and a bit of pine. Flavors of hops grab you with citrus notes, a botter but pleasant aftertaste. Definitely a top selection for IPAs.

UPDATED: SEP 5, 2013 Had at The Union, Encinitas CA. Delicious. Perfectly balanced IPA. Pours yellow orange, clear. minimal head. Intense hops on the first sip then mellows out. A unique floral hop notes linger on the palate, slightly spicy and like nothing i have ever tasted. A great high powered session IPA. Highly addictive and perfection at its best. Bravo! 6-Pack in NJ, poured same clear yellow orange, minimal head. Same great freshness and flavors. It travels well, not cheap $14.99 for 6 12oz bottles. Well worth it. A flawless IPA

Incredibly fruity aroma that is intrusive - in a good way. Very fruity but still well- balanced. Not too sweet, still has that bitterness. A hefty 93 SEK (approx 14 usd) at Bishop Arms in Kiruna, but in Sweden that’s not too bad for great craft beer.

Bottle pour, two finger head, good lacing. Both aroma and taste are heavy on the hops. Overall, a pretty good IPA.

Taste is an explosion of tropical fruits with pine and earthy grassy flavors . All the complex flavors are balanced eqaully. Silky smooth mouthfeel. Delicious.

Light amber, cloudy....tall off-white head. Candied orange aroma. Fruit, orange peel, malt flavor. Very smooth. Nicely crafted.

2013 bottle to a tulip glass. Pours a translucent copper with a persistent off- white foamy head. Aroma is malt, a little yeast and caramel. Hops was only barely noticeable but the bottle was one month from expiration. Taste has a solid malt backbone with both piney and grassy hop flavor. The resulting bitterness ramps up in he middle and mildly lingering. A slight roastiness. Medium semi-dry mouthfeel with some astringency. Would like to try a fresher bottle. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Boy, I really seem to be striking out with the Imperial IPA’s lately. Another one that tastes like dish soap to me. Definitely not to my taste, due to the bitter aftertaste. This is another one of the kinds that I cannot stand.
