San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Clear gold with little visual carbonation and a small lingering head. Sweet peach aroma with some malt. Lots of hop bitterness in this one. Medium body with some sweetness from the malt. Dry hopped up finish.

Poured into a glass from a bottle. Hazy orange with a thin head. Smells of grapefruit. Taste hoppy with a bite at the end. Overall it's a great IPA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Slightly cloudy orange-amber colored pour. Small white head that persists, and leaves ample lacing behind. Orange aroma. Some grapefruit and caramel notes. Taste is a bready orange. Nice. Very good beer.

A clean, light, tasty IPA. The body is bright tangerine with an average head and light carbonation. Lots of sweet citrus in the aroma; lemon and some melon, too. The flavor is crisp and tart. Orange and creamy, butterscotch malt. Poured from the bottle right out of the fridge, this thing hit the spot.

If you haven’t had this west coast style ipa, you are missing out. This is one of my favorite ipa’s out there. Easy to drink, get balance, and big hop bite and aroma. A must have in the fridge at all times.

Happy to find this after seeing it on the Zymurgy list. Aroma was pleasant hop mixture tending towards the pine/dank side. Taste was appropriately bitter and well balanced; I found the mouthfeel somewhat towards heavy/mildly syrupy. I may have had unfair expectations.
