San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Can to snifter. Pours a hazy, sunny golden with a thick off-white head that leaves some thick, sparkly fluffy lace. Nose involves tropical fruit (pineapple), plenty of toasted malt, some dank pine resin, earthy and savory notes. Pretty sweet flavor, with a fairly intense bitterness. Medium bodied, oily, creamy, sticky, juicy, with a long bitter finish. A tasty IPA, the toasted malt backbone really helps set off all the hop tones.

Bottle 0.33l at Monk’s American Bar Stockholm. Pours orange with a large white head. Aroma is full of grapefruit, peaches and more. Taste is an amazing blend of bitterness, exotic fruits without being sweet. A perfect IPA.

Just tried this at home from a 12 oz bottle. Pours with a nice big head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is unreal. One of the best I’ve ever smelled. Luscious grapefruity floral citrus. Tastes wonderful with an excellent balance of smoothness and bitter hops. Definitely one of the best IPAs I’ve ever tried. This one lives up to the hype. (and the price - $15 for a 6 pack)

Clear copper colour and a small white head. Aroma is dominated by hops with faint citrus in the background. Taste is incredibly soft, only slight bitterness after you have swallowed a couple of times. Rich body, super soft mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Great IPA!

Great tasting IPA. Very smooth with a very nice dry finish. Doesn't finish too dry. One of the better IPAs I have had. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours golden with a lacy white head. Aroma is pine, grapefruit, peach, mango, and some more tropical fruits. Taste is light sweet and over-moderate bitter. Texture is a little oily, full bodied, lively carbonation and a long bitter, fruity finish. Had high hopes for this one and it did not let me down. Now, where can I find more of this stuff...
